Job Description

Job Title: Cloudera & Database Administrator (DBA)

Location- Singapore

Duration : 12 Months

About the Role

The Cloudera & Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for installing, configuring, administering, monitoring, and optimizing enterprise database and big data platforms across Windows and Linux environments. This role ensures high availability, performance, security, and disaster recovery for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) environments.

Cloudera competencies are mandatory. The role involves close collaboration with application teams, infrastructure engineers, and security teams to design and maintain resilient, scalable, and secure data platforms supporting mission-critical business applications.

Key Responsibilities

Database Administration

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and administer Oracle databases (12c/19c/21c) on Windows and Linux.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) on Windows.
  • Manage database users, roles, access privileges, and storage structures.
  • Perform routine maintenance, patching, performance tuning, and health checks.
  • Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies using RMAN and SQL Server native tools.
  • Monitor database performance and troubleshoot incidents to meet SLA requirements.

Big Data Platform Administration

  • Install, configure, and administer Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) Private and Public Cloud.
  • Manage Hadoop ecosystem components: HDFS, YARN, Hive, Impala, HBase, Spark, Kafka, and NiFi.
  • Administer Cloudera Manager for centralized configuration, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Manage cluster capacity planning, workload distribution, and resource optimization.
  • Implement data ingestion and ETL pipelines using Cloudera ecosystem tools.
  • Optimize Hive Metastore, partitioning strategies, and query performance.
  • Manage HDFS storage quotas, replication policies, and data lifecycle management.
  • Configure Apache Ranger for centralized security, RBAC, and data masking.

High Availability & Replication

  • Configure and maintain Oracle Data Guard for disaster recovery.
  • Implement and support Oracle GoldenGate for real-time data replication.
  • Configure SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances (FCI).
  • Manage SQL Server cluster nodes and conduct failover testing.
  • Configure Hadoop High Availability (NameNode and ResourceManager HA).
  • Implement HBase load balancing and replication for distributed workloads.

Performance & Optimization

  • Analyze and tune SQL queries, indexes, and database parameters.
  • Use Oracle AWR/ADDM and SQL Server Query Store/Extended Events for diagnostics.
  • Optimize Hive and Impala queries using partition pruning and execution plans.
  • Tune YARN resource allocation, Spark memory usage, parallelism, and shuffle operations.
  • Conduct cluster performance assessments and implement optimization recommendations.

Security & Compliance

  • Enforce database security policies, auditing, and encryption.
  • Ensure compliance with MAS TRM, ISO 27001, and internal security standards.
  • Apply patches and perform vulnerability remediation.
  • Configure Ranger policies for Hadoop service-level access control.
  • Enable encryption at rest (HDFS TDE) and in transit (TLS/SSL).
  • Integrate Ranger/Sentry with LDAP or Active Directory.
  • Implement data lineage and auditing using Cloudera Navigator or Apache Atlas.

Monitoring, Automation & Operations

  • Set up proactive monitoring and alerts using OEM, SSMS, and third-party tools.
  • Develop automation scripts using Shell, PowerShell, or Python.
  • Configure Cloudera Manager alerts, diagnostics, and health checks.
  • Implement log aggregation and analysis using ELK, Splunk, or equivalent tools.
  • Automate provisioning and configuration using Ansible, Chef, or custom scripts.
  • Develop dashboards for cluster health, resource utilization, and KPIs.

Disaster Recovery & Documentation

  • Design, test, and execute disaster recovery and failover procedures.
  • Implement HDFS BDR strategies using snapshots, DistCp, and replication.
  • Conduct periodic DR drills and validate recovery objectives.
  • Maintain detailed documentation including architecture diagrams, runbooks, and SOPs.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation and incident response.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Singapore Citizen (Mandatory role involves production environment access).
  • Strong experience with:
  • Oracle Data Guard and Oracle GoldenGate
  • SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances
  • Experience with Windows and Linux platforms (Red Hat, Oracle Linux).
  • Knowledge of:
  • Databases: Oracle, MS SQL Server
  • Big Data: Hadoop, Hive, NoSQL, Sqoop, Cloudera
  • Database Activity Monitoring: Imperva, Guardium, DataSunrise (or similar)

Technical Skills

  • Oracle Database (12c/19c/21c): RAC, ASM, RMAN, OEM
  • MS SQL Server (2016/2019/2022): SSMS, SSIS, SSRS, AlwaysOn, FCI
  • Scripting: Shell, PowerShell, Python
  • Backup tools: NetBackup, CommVault, or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of OS, networking, and storage fundamentals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oracle and/or MS SQL Server certifications
  • Windows and/or Linux certifications
  • ITIL Foundation certification

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work in multi-vendor, cross-platform environments
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure in production environments
