Leading global financial institution is seeking a seasoned VMware consultant with deep expertise in desktop virtualization to lead a strategic VDI migration to a new data center. This role requires a strong technical background in Horizon and vSphere environments, along with the ability to drive planning, stakeholder engagement, and successful execution across multiple phases.
The Position
- Oversee the end-to-end migration of virtual desktop environments, including both offline and online methods.
- Design and execute structured migration planscovering pre-migration assessments, pilot runs, and full deployment.
- Automate recurring tasks using PowerShell or Python, minimizing manual effort and increasing reliability.
- Collaborate with internal infrastructure, application, and network teams to coordinate migration timing and technical dependencies.
- Deliver clear communication to cross-functional stakeholders, maintaining visibility into timelines, risks, and post-migration validation.
- Participate in and lead scheduled weekend migration events, with adjusted working hours during the week.
The Candidate
- Significant hands-on experience in VMware Horizon, vSphere, and virtual desktop deployments across large-scale environments.
- Strong grasp of vCenter administration and Horizon Connection Server configuration from an EUC (end-user computing) perspective.
- Demonstrated success in leading desktop-focused infrastructure migrations within enterprise or regulated environments.
- Advanced scripting capability in PowerShell or Python to support automation of migration workflows.
- Proven ability to manage timelines, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations across technical and business teams.
- Comfortable working in dynamic, fast-paced environments with weekend-based implementation cycles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience migrating hypervisors or VDI workloads in hybrid or multi-site setups.
- Familiarity with load balancing and network adjustments tied to VDI environment moves.
- Background in planning and executing multi-phase infrastructure projects within a regulated enterprise environment.
