Role Overview
As a Senior Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of our hybrid-cloud infrastructure. You will bridge the gap between our legacy Windows environments and our modern AWS cloud architecture, ensuring high availability, security, and performance. With 5-7 years of experience, you are expected to mentor junior staff and lead complex migration or automation projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Windows Infrastructure Management
- Active Directory & GPO: Manage and optimize AD DS, including Group Policy Objects (GPO) for security hardening and environment standardization.
- Server Lifecycle: Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 instances.
- Core Services: Administer DNS, DHCP, IIS, and Certificate Services (PKI).
- Endpoint Management: Oversee patch management and software deployment using tools like SCCM, MECM, or Intune.
2. AWS Cloud Operations
- Compute & Storage: Provision and manage EC2 instances, EBS volumes, and S3 buckets.
- Networking: Design and maintain VPCs, Subnets, Route 53, and Client/Site-to-Site VPNs.
- Security & Identity: Implement Principle of Least Privilege using AWS IAM (Users, Groups, Roles, and Policies).
- Cost Optimization: Use AWS Cost Explorer and Trusted Advisor to monitor and reduce cloud spend.
3. Automation & Security
- Scripting: Automate repetitive tasks using PowerShell (for Windows) and Python/Boto3 or AWS CLI (for cloud).
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Manage environment consistency using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
- Disaster Recovery: Maintain and test backup strategies using Veeam, AWS Backup, or similar enterprise tools.
Requirements
- 5-7 years in Systems Administration with at least 3 years in a heavy AWS environment.
- Expert knowledge of Active Directory, PowerShell, and Windows Server (2016-2022).
- Proficiency in EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, and RDS.
- Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, Load Balancers (ALB/NLB), and Firewalls.
- Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Certifications
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate (Highly Preferred)
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- CompTIA Security+ or similar security-focused credential
Soft Skills
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex needle in a haystack issues across hybrid environments.
- Communication: Comfortable explaining technical debt or cloud ROI to non-technical stakeholders.
- Adaptability: Eagerness to stay current with the fast-moving AWS roadmap.
