Cloud Data Platform Solution Architect

As a Cloud Data Platform Solution Architect, you will lead the design, setup, and implementation of a modern, secure, and scalable cloud data platform that underpins enterprise analytics and AI initiatives. This role focuses on hands-on architecture leadership, deep integration of best-in-class data technologies, and translating complex government, security, and user requirements into a production-ready cloud data platform built on AWS.

What will you do

Cloud Data Platform Architecture & Design

• Design and lead the end-to-end architecture of a cloud-based data platform on AWS.
• Establish scalable, secure, and resilient platform foundations to support analytics, AI, and self-service data use cases.
• Translate user stories, functional requirements, and security controls into platform infrastructure and architecture blueprints.

Data Integration, Governance & Virtualisation

• Deploy and configure Talend Big Data Management for scalable data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration.
• Implement Talend Data Catalog to enable enterprise metadata management, lineage, and data governance.
• Design and implement Denodo for data virtualisation and semantic modelling across heterogeneous data sources.

Analytics & Data Science Enablement

• Set up RStudio Workbench and Posit Package Manager to support secure, collaborative data science and analytics workflows.
• Enable governed access to curated datasets for analysts, data scientists, and AI teams.

API, Access Control & Data Sharing

• Design a robust data API layer using Tyk API Gateway and AWS API Gateway for secure, scalable data access.
• Implement CKAN to support data publishing, discovery, and open data use cases.
• Deploy Keycloak for identity and access management, enabling SSO, RBAC, OAuth2, and secure authentication across platform components.

AWS Platform & Security

• Architect and deploy AWS services including S3, Glue, Redshift, and SageMaker to support data storage, transformation, analytics, and AI workloads.
• Ensure platform security, compliance, and scalability aligned with government standards and best practices.
• Support deployments within Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) and GCC+ environments.

Delivery Leadership & Collaboration

• Define and document platform architecture, integration patterns, and operational procedures.
• Work closely with cloud infrastructure teams, DevOps (e.g. SHIPS/HAT), scrum masters, project managers, data engineers, and business stakeholders.
• Act as a trusted technical authority to align platform capabilities with organisational and agency needs.
  
  

The ideal candidate should possess:

Core Experience & Skills

• Minimum 12 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or solution architecture roles.
• Proven experience designing and deploying enterprise data platforms from the ground up.
• Strong understanding of modern data lake, data warehouse, and big data architectures.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

Proven Hands-on Expertise With

• Talend Big Data Management (ETL pipelines, orchestration).
• Talend Data Catalog (metadata management, governance, lineage).
• Denodo (data virtualisation, semantic layer design).
• RStudio Workbench & Posit Package Manager (secure collaborative analytics environments).
• Keycloak (SSO, OAuth2, RBAC, identity federation).
• CKAN (data portals, dataset publishing, discovery).
• Tyk API Gateway & AWS API Gateway (API design, security, throttling, policies).
• AWS services, especially S3, Glue, Redshift, and SageMaker.
• Containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.

Nice to have:

• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for data platforms and cloud infrastructure.
• Prior experience delivering platforms within GCC and GCC+ environments.
