Job Description

The Clinical Senior oversees classes within the centre, under the supervision of the Assistant Head of Department (Teaching) and/or Assistant Director (Pedagogy and Practice). He/She reviews the children's learning progress and improves teaching and learning approaches to meet the developmental goals of children. He/she supports the design and evaluation of centre-wide curriculum, programmes and teaching practices to improve learning outcomes. He/she collaborates with community stakeholders, and social service providers to deliver programmes and services with support from other Clinical Seniors. He/she collaborates and liaises with interns. He/she also conducts workshops for knowledge sharing at a centre-level, provides guidance to teaching staff, supports the conceptualisation of relevant inquiry projects and carries out data collection as part of the centre senior's team. A thoughtful and calm professional who loves working with children and possesses good team management skills, he/she is able to work in various class profiles.

Plan and implement curriculum and programmes:

  • Implement and provide feedback on the teaching and learning approaches for applications to lessons
  • Conduct lesson evaluation to make sure the teaching and learning approaches are maintained at the desired level based on the experience of the teachers
  • Guide teachers to integrate teaching and learning approaches to cater to children with more challenging behaviors or those requiring high levels of support
  • Ensure and carry out implementation of appropriate health, safety, nutritional and hygiene standards and procedures, and as an Environmental Control Coordinator (ECC)
  • Implement centre curriculum and programmes to meet needs of children that are unique or challenging
  • Implement developmentally appropriate learning materials and resources to improve quality of learning environment

Manage family and community programmes

  • Support the implementation of new learning strategies for family and community (i.e., preschool) programmes and centre initiatives
  • Provide feedback for family and community programmes and initiatives for improvements
  • Implement outreach activities (i.e., Parents Workshop, Transition Talk) with co-workers

Uplift professional practice of early intervention teaching

  • Conduct staff training in evidence-based practices, within the centre
  • Assist in collecting inquiry findings and data analysis
  • Coach and supervise teaching staff and interns, to improve work performances
  • Coach and guide staff on reflective practice- Implement new intervention methods, tools and assistive technologies based on emerging Early Intervention and sector trends

Deliver interventions

  • Review and discuss children's learning progress, goals, and family priorities in coordination with other social services and healthcare professionals
  • Review case files, reports and closure of cases, under minimal guidance from Reporting Officer
  • Evaluate effectiveness of interventions, methods, tools and assistive technologies to support learning
  • Establish and maintain timeline for various submissions within the teaching department
  • Refine classroom management strategies
  • Oversee group classes
  • Conduct Intake Assessment and suggest possible class placement
  • Advise the requisition of resources, and monetary claims for purchases of direct supervisees
  • Manage manpower matters including deployment and leave applications for direct supervisees

Collaborate with families and stakeholders across disciplines

  • Motivate teaching staff to collaborate with families to embed strategies at home and do a monthly check-in with the families
  • Collaborate with trans-disciplinary team members in setting age- appropriate IEP goals for the children

Coaching & Supervision

  • Provide constructive feedback to the teaching staff and trans-disciplinary team on the classroom engagement, behavior management, activity planning and timetable, with support from the other Clinical Seniors
  • Engaging caregivers or other stakeholders with HEART narratives
  • Conduct check-ins and supervision sessions according to the supervision framework of direct supervisees
  • Conduct annual Performance Appraisals

Qualifications

  • Specialist Diploma in Early Childhood Intervention (Special Needs) (SDESN) or ADESN
  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Special Education or related fields from recognized institutions

Other Information

  • At least 3 years of experience working with families and children as a Trained Early Intervention Teacher with experience in leading teams and projects
  • Mature, independent, creative, flexible thinking and able to motivate children
  • Good people skills
  • Able to work independently
  • Has strong understanding of the diverse cultures and races
  • Has patience, love, passion & commitment in the education of & nurturing young children and empowering the families
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Keen to develop professionally
