We are looking for a Claims Executive – Energy, Property & Construction to join our Claims team.

In this role, you will manage a portfolio of commercial claims within assigned authority limits, with a particular focus on Energy, Property and Construction-related losses. You will apply sound technical judgement across coverage assessment, reserving, claims strategy, negotiation and settlement, while ensuring claims are handled fairly, efficiently and in line with internal governance requirements.

You will work closely with customers, brokers, loss adjusters, legal advisers, reinsurers and internal stakeholders to drive timely claims resolution and deliver a high-quality, customer-centric claims experience.

This opportunity would suit someone with 3 to 5 years of commercial claims experience, ideally with exposure to Property, Engineering, Construction or Energy-related claims, who is looking to further develop their technical claims expertise.

Key Responsibilities

Claims Management & Technical Assessment

  • Manage a portfolio of Energy, Property and Construction claims from notification through to resolution, within assigned authority limits and claims handling guidelines.
  • Review policy wording, facts of loss and supporting documentation to determine policy response, coverage and liability, escalating complex coverage matters where appropriate.
  • Develop and execute appropriate claims strategies based on the circumstances, complexity and potential exposure of each claim.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive claims records, ensuring claims data and documentation are updated promptly and in accordance with internal standards and best practices.

Reserving, Settlement & Recoveries

  • Establish timely and appropriate claims reserves, including consideration of potential ultimate cost and sensitivities, and conduct regular reviews throughout the claims lifecycle.
  • Assess claim quantum and supporting evidence, challenge costs where appropriate, and negotiate fair and reasonable settlements within assigned authority.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for recovery, subrogation and contribution, where applicable.
  • Manage and calculate recoveries relating to internal accounts and external reinsurers, ensuring appropriate documentation and follow-up.

Stakeholder & Customer Management

  • Proactively manage relationships with customers, brokers, loss adjusters, lawyers, experts, reinsurers and other external service providers to facilitate effective claims resolution.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including Underwriting and Distribution, to share relevant claims insights and support effective portfolio management.
  • Communicate claims decisions and technical matters clearly, professionally and empathetically, ensuring a positive customer experience throughout the claims journey.
  • Manage produced and received claims in accordance with applicable claims protocols and agreed service standards.

Governance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure claims are managed in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements, internal controls, delegated authority limits and claims governance standards.
  • Identify emerging issues, claims trends and lessons learned, and share relevant insights with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to business planning, process improvement and transformation initiatives within the Claims function.
  • Support initiatives that improve claims efficiency, technical capability, customer outcomes and operational effectiveness.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in commercial insurance claims, ideally with exposure to Property, Engineering, Construction and/or Energy-related claims.
  • Good understanding of commercial insurance principles, policy interpretation, coverage assessment, reserving and claims settlement.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage claims independently within defined authority levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex information and exercise sound judgement.
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple claims and competing priorities effectively.
