Chief Data Scientist (Research & Development)

As part of Hitachi's commitment to sustainability and advanced energy solutions, we are seeking a Chief Data Scientist to strengthen our Research & Development capabilities in energy optimization for Buildings and Data Centers.
Position Overview
The Chief Data Scientist is responsible for conducting and leading research that addresses customer challenges, as well as creating advanced technologies, solutions, and business models related to energy optimization for Buildings and Data Centers.
This role supports Hitachi's strategic, financial, and operational objectives by driving innovation, enabling sustainable energy solutions, and translating research outcomes into practical, customer-ready applications. The position requires close collaboration with global research teams, internal stakeholders, and external partners across the building and data center value chain.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct research activities and develop advanced technologies and solutions for energy optimization in Buildings and Data Centers.
- Apply energy optimization methodologies, simulations, and digital twin technologies to improve system efficiency and performance.
- Create service designs and innovative business models based on research outcomes and customer needs.
- Plan and execute Proof of Concept (PoC) activities to demonstrate solution value through real-world applications.
- Engage with customers to conduct requirement studies and support solution proposals.
- Prepare proposal documents, presentation materials, and technical reports.
- Collaborate with global research teams and other internal and external parties to develop and deliver integrated solutions.
- Share knowledge, best practices, and research findings to support continuous improvement and innovation.
Educational & Professional Qualifications
- Master's Degree or PhD.
- Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience or research experience in energy optimization for buildings and/or data centers.
- Working experience in service design and customer-facing activities, including requirement studies and solution proposals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong hands-on capability in energy optimization, simulation, and digital twin technologies.
- Good knowledge of building and data center energy management systems.
- Knowledge of AI / Machine Learning, data analytics, and proficiency in programming languages such as Python and MATLAB.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
