Role Description
The Chief AI Officer / Head of AI is responsible for defining, leading, and scaling the organization's artificial intelligence strategy across products, operations, and business functions. This executive role ensures AI is effectively embedded into business processes to drive innovation, efficiency, and competitive advantage.
Key responsibilities typically include:
- Developing and executing the enterprise-wide AI strategy aligned with business goals
- Identifying and prioritizing high-impact AI use cases across departments
- Leading the design, development, and deployment of AI/ML and generative AI solutions
- Building and scaling AI teams (data scientists, ML engineers, AI product managers)
- Overseeing AI platform architecture, data infrastructure, and MLOps capabilities
- Ensuring responsible AI practices including ethics, fairness, privacy, and governance
- Collaborating with CTO, CIO, and business leaders on AI adoption and integration
- Driving innovation through AI research, prototyping, and experimentation
- Measuring business impact, ROI, and performance of AI initiatives
- Managing external partnerships with vendors, research institutions, and AI providers
Qualifications (Must-have)
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
- 10–20+ years of experience in AI, data science, software engineering, or technology leadership
- Proven experience delivering AI/ML solutions from concept to production at scale
- Strong understanding of machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and data systems
- Experience leading cross-functional technical and product teams
- Strong executive leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to translate AI capabilities into business strategy and measurable outcomes
- Experience with enterprise systems, cloud platforms, and data-driven environments
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or advanced research degree in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning
- Experience with Generative AI, LLMs, reinforcement learning, or advanced analytics
- Background in Big Tech, AI startups, consulting, or digital transformation leadership
- Familiarity with cloud ecosystems such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud
- Experience building AI Centers of Excellence or enterprise innovation labs
- Strong publication record, patents, or contributions to AI research
- Experience advising board-level executives on AI strategy and investment decisions
- Strong understanding of AI governance frameworks and regulatory compliance
