Job Description

Role Overview

In this role, you will supervise the cargo flow team and coordinate vessel loadings to ensure maximum filling factor and optimal vessel utilization across all Line services. You will be responsible for executing the commercial plan, using data analysis to drive operational performance, and leading, developing, and organizing the team to achieve defined business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Cargo Flow Planning & Vessel Utilisation

  • Monitor and control vessel load factors through analysis of booking trends and cargo forecasts.
  • Implement strategies to optimise vessel space utilisation across all services.
  • Prepare and analyse cargo flow and port performance reports to support informed decision making.
  • Coordinate with Trade and Commercial teams to ensure allocations align with market demand.


Space Allocation & Equipment Management

  • Implement and manage medium term space allocations in line with commercial plans.
  • Balance laden and empty container movements in accordance with the Equipment Repositioning Plan.
  • Collaborate with Transshipment and Vessel Planning teams to secure proper cargo connections.


Exception Handling & Cost Optimisation

  • Proactively respond to network disruptions (e.g. port omissions, void sailings, delays).
  • Develop and implement alternative cargo recovery solutions to protect service integrity and customer commitments.
  • Minimise operational costs through effective contingency planning and optimisation of available capacity.


Loading Coordination & Vessel Optimisation

  • Coordinate and guide cargo routing and loading for all Line services, ensuring compliance with planned routing and space allocations.
  • Execute short and long term action plans to address over and under utilised allocations.
  • Produce and analyse daily loading reports and statistics to optimise performance and support management decisions.
  • Coordinate loading instructions, cuts, and switches with Commercial, Operations, agents, and partners.


Team Leadership & Development

  • Act as a senior point of contact, supporting the Cargo Flow Supervisor/Senior Supervisor in daily operational management.
  • Lead, motivate, and provide day to day supervision to the Cargo Flow team, including task prioritisation, feedback, and objective follow up.
  • Mentor, train, and guide team members to develop their skills and ensure adherence to best practices and systems.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations, participate in recruitment, and organise team planning (leave and backup arrangements).


Process Improvement & Project Participation

  • Take ownership of and drive key process improvements and initiatives with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Actively monitor and adapt to changes in systems and processes, ensuring the team remains up to date.
  • Plan and execute day to day cargo flow modifications and participate in transversal projects to propose and implement enhancements to methods and tools.


What We're Looking For

  • Diploma from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the shipping industry.
  • Strong command of MS Office, with high proficiency in Excel and strong numerical accuracy.
  • Strong problem solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Knowledge of macros for process automation.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the transportation or logistics industry.
  • Proven experience in mentoring or guiding junior team members.
