Job Description

About the Role

Our client is seeking a results-driven Business Unit Manager to lead the commercial, operational, and strategic development of an assigned Business Unit. This position is responsible for driving revenue growth, managing key customer relationships, overseeing supplier partnerships, developing product portfolios, and ensuring overall business profitability.

The role will work closely with cross-functional teams across Singapore, Malaysia, and China, and requires a strong balance of leadership, commercial acumen, and technical understanding.

Key Responsibilities

Business Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and execute business unit growth strategies aligned with company objectives
  • Own P&L performance, revenue targets, gross margin, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Analyse market opportunities, industry trends, and competitor landscape
  • Present business reviews and strategic updates to senior leadership

Sales & Customer Management

  • Manage and grow key customer accounts across regional markets
  • Drive new business development and portfolio expansion
  • Support commercial proposals, pricing strategy, contract negotiation, and solution selling
  • Resolve critical customer, commercial, or delivery-related issues

Product / Supplier Management

  • Manage product lifecycle from launch through maturity and phase-out
  • Liaise with principals, OEMs, suppliers, and technical partners
  • Evaluate costing, pricing, and margin optimisation opportunities
  • Coordinate internal and customer-facing product training initiatives

Cross-Functional Operations

  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, QA, Supply Chain, and Procurement teams
  • Support assembly planning, supplier localisation, and technical build readiness
  • Ensure compliance with quality systems, SOPs, and internal governance processes
  • Coordinate regional execution across Singapore, Malaysia, and China

Team Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop Business Unit team members
  • Set performance goals and align team objectives to company targets
  • Build a high-performance, collaborative, and accountable culture
  • Support succession planning and talent development initiatives

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in Business Management, Technical Sales, Product Management, Application Engineering, or related leadership functions
  • Proven experience managing P&L, revenue targets, key accounts, and business growth
  • Industry experience in one or more of the following sectors:
  • Optics, Photonics, Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, Automation, Manufacturing
  • Experience managing suppliers / principals across Asia, Europe, or US markets preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Optical, Physics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Additional business qualifications (MBA / Sales Leadership / Product Strategy) advantageous
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) CRM / ERP knowledge preferred
  • Mandarin language capability advantageous due to regional stakeholder engagement
  • Willing to travel regionally when required
