Job Description

Ampol is transforming how Trading & Shipping operates through a new Commodity Trading & Risk Management (CTRM) ecosystem, creating smarter and more connected ways of working across the trade lifecycle.

We're looking for a Trading Business Process Optimisation Lead to help shape this transformation.

In this role, you will design and optimise the business process workflows that will support our future CTRM platform. You'll map current processes, build improved future-state workflows, and define clear handoffs and operational controls to ensure procedures are practical, reliable and efficient.

You'll partner closely with program leadership and SMEs across Trading, Risk, Middle Office, Finance and Operations to deliver aligned, accurate and easy-to-adopt workflows that strengthen exposure management, risk, cash flow and liquidity.

Key Responsibilities

Trading Operations Excellence

  • Lead operational improvement work to support the CTRM Ecosystem implementation.
  • Analyse and redesign trading and operational workflows to create efficient, practical and scalable processes.
  • Support business readiness through interim and transition stages.

Operational Impact Analysis & Planning

  • Review trading, risk, middle office and operations activities to identify required changes.
  • Build structured operational plans that define how tasks will function in the new environment.

SME Engagement & Alignment

  • Work with SMEs across Trading, Risk, Finance, Operations and Middle Office to validate future workflows.
  • Align process design with CTRM delivery milestones and program requirements.

Business Process Design & Implementation

  • Define future-state operating processes that integrate seamlessly with the CTRM solution.
  • Ensure procedures are embedded into day-to-day operations and support real-time data use.

Capability Uplift & Documentation

  • Create clear, user-friendly procedural documents, reference guides and operational instructions.
  • Support teams to confidently adopt new ways of working.

Operational Risk & Controls

  • Identify process risks and define appropriate controls and remediation steps.
  • Escalate operational issues that may impact process integrity or trading outcomes.


Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance or a related field.
  • Experience leading or contributing to operational excellence or process optimisation in commodity trading, energy markets or supply chain/logistics.
  • Strong understanding of commodities trading operations and the physical/paper trade lifecycle CTRM experience highly regarded.
  • Proven ability to design, improve and document complex operational workflows, controls and procedures.
  • Experience collaborating with senior stakeholders across Trading, Risk, Middle Office, Finance and Operations.
  • Skilled in analysing and mapping processes, identifying gaps and recommending practical, scalable solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, able to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences and influence alignment.
  • Effective working across both business and IT teams to ensure processes and systems work cohesively.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to structure and maintain detailed operational documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capability.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with shifting priorities.
  • Energetic, collaborative self-starter who builds credible relationships and quickly understands new contexts.
