Business Development Manager (Metal Recycling)
General Manager / Director
The Business Development Manager is directly responsible for growing scrap supply volume, securing profitable customers, and expanding market presence. This role is results-driven and revenue-critical. Candidates who are relationship-only, passive, or unable to close deals in a price-sensitive and competitive environment will not be suitable.
Identify, source, and secure new scrap metal suppliers (factories, construction sites, demolition contractors, manufacturers, logistics operators).
Negotiate pricing, grading standards, collection terms, and payment structures to protect margins.
Convert one-time suppliers into long-term, contract-based accounts.
Achieve monthly and quarterly scrap volume targets by metal type.
Develop and manage buyers including local mills, exporters, and international traders.
Expand sales channels for ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Track market pricing trends and competitor movements.
Propose pricing strategies aligned with market fluctuations and company cost structure.
Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers and buyers.
Draft and manage MOUs, supply agreements, and pricing frameworks.
Prevent commercial disputes related to weight, grading, quality, or payment terms.
Ensure all deals are commercially viable and approved according to company authority limits.
Be accountable for revenue growth, margin protection, and deal quality.
Avoid high-risk, low-margin, or non-recoverable deals.
Coordinate with Operations and Finance to ensure smooth execution of secured contracts.
Responsible for collection risks and customer payment discipline.
Monitor scrap market prices, demand cycles, and export conditions.
Provide management with market intelligence, forecasts, and growth recommendations.
Identify opportunities for new metal categories, value-added processing, or new markets.
Work closely with Operations to align scrap intake capability and processing capacity.
Coordinate with Logistics on collection and delivery feasibility.
Ensure Compliance and HSE requirements are met for all new business activities.
Minimum 5-8 years of proven business development experience in metal recycling, scrap trading, commodities, or heavy industrial materials.
Strong knowledge of scrap metal types, grading, pricing, and market dynamics (ferrous & non-ferrous).
Proven track record of closing deals and delivering measurable volume and revenue growth.
Strong negotiation skills with suppliers and buyers.
Able to operate independently with clear revenue and volume targets.
Willing to travel, visit sites, and work beyond standard office hours.
Relationship-only sales profiles without closing ability will not be considered.
