Position Overview

Fraunhofer Singapore is seeking a Business Development & Innovation Manager to strengthen our activities in microelectronics and semiconductor innovation and act as a liaison between Singapore and Fraunhofer institutes in Germany, particularly with Fraunhofer ENAS (www.enas.fraunhofer.de) and other microelectronics-focused research institutes.

The successful candidate will act as a strategic connector between research, industry, and government stakeholders identifying opportunities for joint innovation, partnership development, and translational R&D across Singapore, Germany, and the wider ASEAN region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Business Development: Identify, develop, and manage collaborative R&D opportunities in the fields of microelectronics and semiconductor technologies.
    Represent Fraunhofer Singapore and its partner institutes in engagements with companies, industry associations, and research organizations. Drive technology scouting, opportunity analysis, and market segmentation within Singapore's and ASEAN's deep-tech ecosystems
  • Partnership Building & Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain partnerships with universities, research agencies (e.g. A.STAR, NTU, NUS), and industrial partners. Serve as a liaison and trusted advisor and bridge for Fraunhofer parnter institutes. Support the preparation and negotiation of joint projects, partnerships, and funding applications.
  • Innovation and Program Management: Support the design and management of applied research projects, ensuring alignment with industry needs and Fraunhofer's mission. Coordinate R&D transfer activities between Singapore and German research partners. Contribute to the development of innovation frameworks and long-term strategic initiatives such as reliability testing platforms, semiconductor manufacturing R&D, and AI-enabled integration.
  • Market Intelligence and Promotion: Analyze R&D and policy trends across Singapore and the region, identifying technology needs, funding calls, and bilateral collaboration programs. Actively promote the Fraunhofer brand through outreach, communication, and participation in regional industry events and conferences.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University degree in engineering, science, or economics, preferably with a focus on advanced microelectronics and semiconductors.
  • 5+ years of experience in industry collaboration, R&D management, or business development in the deep-tech or semiconductor sector.
  • Proven track record in developing partnerships or managing projects at the interface between research and industry and government.
  • Sound understanding of Singapore's R&D ecosystem, innovation agencies, and industry networks.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and intercultural skills.
  • Ability to operate with independence, initiative, and diplomacy in a complex international research environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Passion for applied research, innovation, and international collaboration.
  • The applicant must fulfil the legal requirements for employment in Singapore.
