Position Summary

The Director, New Business Development will lead initiatives to attract and support international companies seeking to establish or expand their presence in Singapore. This role is responsible for identifying global business opportunities, building strategic relationships with overseas business owners, investors, trade associations, and ecosystem partners, and positioning Singapore as the preferred destination for regional headquarters, investment, and business growth.

The successful candidate will have strong commercial acumen, an international network, and a deep understanding of Singapore's business ecosystem. They will serve as a trusted advisor to business owners throughout their market entry journey, coordinating with government agencies, professional service providers, and industry partners to deliver a seamless experience.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Market Expansion

  • Develop and execute strategies to attract overseas companies to establish or expand operations in Singapore.
  • Identify and engage high-potential businesses across priority industries and target markets.
  • Build and manage a strong pipeline of international business owners, investors, and corporate decision-makers.
  • Lead outreach initiatives, business missions, webinars, networking events, and international roadshows.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with chambers of commerce, trade associations, investment promotion agencies, incubators, accelerators, and business councils.

Client Advisory & Market Entry Support

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for overseas businesses exploring Singapore as their regional hub.
  • Understand clients business objectives and recommend suitable market entry strategies.
  • Advise businesses on:
  • Company incorporation
  • Business licensing and regulatory requirements
  • Employment and immigration considerations
  • Office and operational setup
  • Banking and financial services
  • Tax incentives and government support programs
  • Talent acquisition and workforce planning
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to facilitate a smooth business setup process.
  • Maintain long-term relationships to identify expansion opportunities after market entry.

Stakeholder & Ecosystem Development

  • Build collaborative relationships with government agencies, economic development organizations, professional service firms, investors, venture capital firms, and industry partners.
  • Represent the organization at international conferences, investment forums, trade exhibitions, and business events.
  • Promote Singapore's value proposition as a regional headquarters and innovation hub.
  • Develop referral partnerships that generate qualified business opportunities.

Strategy & Leadership

  • Monitor global investment trends, industry developments, and competitive market intelligence.
  • Recommend new market opportunities and sector-focused growth strategies.
  • Develop annual business development plans and performance targets.
  • Prepare reports on pipeline development, conversion rates, investment outcomes, and market insights.
  • Contribute to the organization's strategic initiatives for international business attraction.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, International Business, Economics, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in business development, international trade, foreign direct investment (FDI), investment promotion, consulting, or professional services.
  • Demonstrated experience working with international companies expanding into new markets.
  • Strong understanding of Singapore's business environment, regulatory framework, and investment ecosystem.
  • Experience engaging C-suite executives, founders, and business owners.
  • Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Strong commercial and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Experience working across diverse cultures and international markets.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or postgraduate qualification.
  • Experience in investment promotion agencies, enterprise development organizations, economic development, consulting, or international business advisory.
  • Established international business network across Asia, Europe, North America, or the Middle East.
  • Familiarity with Singapore government grants, incentive schemes, and business support programs.
  • Multilingual capabilities are an advantage.
