Job Summary

The Bilingual Technical Interpreter (Japanese / English) provides real-time language interpretation and communication support during technical operations, engineering discussions, and high-priority incident response activities. This role bridges communication between internal engineering teams and customer or partner engineers to ensure technical clarity, accuracy, and alignment during time-sensitive situations. The ideal candidate brings strong Japanese/English fluency along with a practical background in IT systems, infrastructure, or technical operations. This position includes participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation to support critical incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver real-time Japanese English interpretation during live technical discussions with internal and external engineering teams.
  • Accurately interpret technical terminology, troubleshooting steps, and engineering intent.
  • Support Priority 1 (P1) incident bridges and technical escalations as needed.
  • Ask clarifying questions to ensure precise understanding across stakeholders.
  • Translate brief written technical communications, updates, or summaries.
  • Maintain working knowledge of relevant systems, platforms, workflows, and incident management processes.
  • Protect confidentiality and uphold professional communication standards at all times.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to refine communication workflows.
  • Participate in Presales, Practice, or Transition engagements when applicable.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional fluency in Japanese and English (verbal and written).
  • 7+ years experience
  • Experience working in a technical environment such as Technical Support, Infrastructure, Networking, Systems Administration, or Engineering Escalation.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical concepts in real time.
  • High attention to detail, with strong listening and contextual reasoning skills.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced or high-pressure environments.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • JLPT N2 or higher (or equivalent Japanese proficiency).

Preferred Qualifications

  • JLPT N1 certification.
  • Prior experience providing live interpretation in technical or operational settings.
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools and structured incident management.
  • Experience supporting global or multinational engineering teams.
  • Exposure to enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, or OEM technologies.
  • Additional language skills are a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Fully remote role.
  • Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation for high-priority incidents.
  • On-call incidents are infrequent but business-critical.
  • Some meetings may occur outside standard business hours, including alignment with Japanese business hours.
