Backend Software Engineer, Search Infrastructure

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to design, build and scale backend services and data pipelines supporting search infrastructure. The role focuses on distributed systems, indexing performance, system reliability and production troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and scale backend services and data pipelines for search indexing.

• Own component performance, capacity and reliability, including latency, data freshness and indexing throughput.

• Diagnose and resolve complex production issues across distributed systems.

• Collaborate with search ranking, serving and product teams to enhance search infrastructure.

• Conduct design and code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.

• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical direction and architecture decisions.

• Drive technical improvements and migrations from legacy components.

• Identify and resolve performance, scalability and reliability bottlenecks in production systems.

Mandatory Skills

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on backend development or distributed systems.

• Strong programming skills in one or more of C++, Java, Go, Rust or Python.

• Hands on experience building and operating large scale distributed systems in production.

• Experience diagnosing and resolving performance, scalability and reliability issues.

• Ability to own complex technical problems from design through implementation and production operation.

Preferred Skills

• Search infrastructure experience, including inverted indexes, indexing pipelines, retrieval systems or query serving.

• Experience with stream processing and large scale data systems.

• Knowledge of storage systems, caching, sharding and replication strategies.

• Experience migrating or replatforming production systems without user visible disruption
