About the Role

We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to develop cloud-native microservices supporting Credit Card, Cashline and Personal Loan origination.

You will build secure APIs, modernise legacy Java applications and integrate lending services with credit decisioning, core banking and digital identity systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop production-grade microservices using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
• Design contract-first REST APIs using OpenAPI/Swagger, supporting React Micro-Frontend onboarding journeys.
• Analyse legacy J2EE applications and extract business logic into modular, maintainable services.
• Extend existing onboarding frameworks, common libraries and orchestration flows while preventing regression.
• Integrate credit bureau checks, underwriting engines, customer/account services and Singpass MyInfo.
• Design relational schemas and optimise SQL, indexes and transaction handling using Spring Data JPA/Hibernate.
• Implement asynchronous processing, status updates and audit logging using Apache Kafka.
• Apply circuit breakers, retry policies and idempotency controls.
• Develop automated tests using JUnit 5, Mockito and Testcontainers.
• Deploy and troubleshoot applications on Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, architects, frontend engineers and QA within an Agile squad.

Requirements

• 3-6 years of hands-on enterprise backend development experience.
• At least three years of professional Java and Spring Boot experience, including Spring Web, Spring Security and Spring Data.
• Experience developing and deploying production RESTful microservices.
• Strong API design and security knowledge, including OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Strong relational database skills using MariaDB, PostgreSQL or Oracle, including query optimisation and indexing.
• Practical messaging experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ, with hands-on Kafka producers, consumers and topic management strongly relevant.
• Hands-on Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift deployment and troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with JUnit 5, Mockito, Testcontainers, Postman and Jira.
• Ability to analyse complex requirements and existing application code.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum or Kanban teams.
• Strong communication, problem-solving and ownership skills.

Added Advantage

• Banking, FinTech or consumer-lending origination experience.
• Knowledge of Credit Cards, Cashline, Personal Loans, credit bureau checks and straight-through processing.
• Legacy Java EE experience: EJB, Servlets, JSP, SOAP/WSDL and EAR/WAR deployments.
• Experience with WebSphere, WebLogic or JBoss.
• Experience with Resilience4j, rate limiting and fault-tolerant integration patterns.
• API contract testing using Pact or Spring Cloud Contract.
• Distributed tracing using OpenTelemetry or Jaeger.
