Backend Developer (Chatbot Mobile App)

Responsibilities

• Design, build, andmaintainbackend services and APIs for a consumer mobile chatbot app
• Own application backend architecture and make practical technical design decisions for a 0-to-1 product
• Build core backend modules including:
• user registration, login, and account management
• authentication and authorization
• notification-related backend services
• analytics and event tracking pipelines
• Design and manage backend data flows using MongoDB and Redis
• Build well-structured, maintainable APIs to support mobile app features across text and voice experiences
• Collaborate with mobile developers and AI engineer to ensure smooth integration across systems
• Set up andmaintaingood engineering practices for logging, monitoring, debugging, and operational visibility
• Improve backend reliability, stability, and maintainability for production use
• Support containerized deploymentand CI/CD pipeline

Requirements

• 3+ years of backend development experience
• Proven experience building backend systems for mobile applications
• Strong experience designing and implementing production APIs and backend services
• Experience working as a hands-on backend engineer in fast-moving product teams
• Ability to independently own backend modules and make sound architecture decisions
• Strong understanding of backend fundamentals, including API design, authentication, caching, datamodeling, and service reliability
• Experience with MongoDB and Redis
• Experience building observable systems with structured logs, monitoring, and alerting
• Experience working with containerized deployments
• Comfortable working with ambiguity in an early-stage product environment
• Able to collaborate effectively with product and cross-functional teams

Preferred qualifications

• Experience withFastAPI
• Java experience is a plus
• Experience building backend systems for consumer-facing apps
• Experience supporting products with both text and voice interaction flows
• Experience being the sole backend engineer or one of the first engineers in a product team
• Familiarity with analytics instrumentation and event design for mobile products
• Experience designing reliable backend services with pragmatic trade-offs rather than overengineering
• Experience with notification systems and mobile app messaging flows
• Experience with account lifecycle features such as onboarding, session management, and user profile management
• Familiarity with working alongside AI/LLM product teams
• Experience deploying services to private cloud or self-hosted environments
