Automotive Technician (Breakdown Recovery Service Crew)

Job Description

  1. Standby Duty:
  • Be on standby during off-peak hours (9:00 PM - 6:30 AM), as rostered. (Tue - Saturday / Sun - Thur)
  • Upon activation, arrive at the appointed breakdown site within 1 hour.
  • Ensure readiness with tools, equipment, and PPE for immediate response.
  1. Breakdown Response:
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical or electrical failures on-site.

  • Conduct comprehensive analysis, including:
    Visual and functional inspections
    Component testing and diagnostics
    Temperature checks for overheating components
    Battery removal and safe handling procedures
    Battery soaking and neutralization for leakage or contamination
  • Replace or repair faulty components as necessary.
  1. Reporting & Communication:
  • Accurately update the vehicle status to the responsible engineer or control center.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to neutralize critical faults.
  • Record all service actions, test results, and parts used in maintenance logs or service software.
  1. Preventive & Support Tasks:
  • Assist in preventive maintenance activities when not on active breakdown duty.
  • Maintain service vehicle, tools, and testing equipment in ready condition.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring fault patterns.

Requirements:

  1. Qualifications:
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering.
  • Valid driver's license (Class 3 or above preferred).
  • Battery handling or HAZMAT certification is an advantage.
  1. Experience:
  • At least 2 years of field or workshop experience in breakdown response or vehicle maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, battery maintenance, and diagnostics.
  1. Skills:
  • Hands-on expertise in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Familiarity with multimeters, diagnostic tools, and thermal sensors.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
