Automation Engineer
@Tuas Avenue (Transport provided island-wide)

The automation engineer provides management for electricalengineering to improve equipment, processes, and driving cost effectiveness inprojects. This is to support transformation initiatives and capacity expansionfor manufacturing operations. The incumbent will also develop technicalsolutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity andcreativity. The Automation Engineer will also guide the successful completionof major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Represents theorganization as the prime technical contact on equipment, software andprocesses. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technicalmatters often requiring coordination between plants.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead end‑to‑end automation projects from concept, design, programming, installation, commissioning, validation, and handover.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and optimise OT systems including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, HMIs, industrial PCs, and edge computing platforms.
  • Integrate robotics, sensors, control systems, and industrial networks into manufacturing operations.
  • Support IoT deployment to enhance data visibility, connectivity, and automation performance.
  • Manage and maintain industrial communication networks such as EtherNet/ IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, and OPC UA.
  • Participate in advanced and humanoid robotics initiatives supporting next‑generation manufacturing technologies.
  • Implement and enforce OT cybersecurity controls in alignment with standards such as ISA/IEC 62443.
  • Perform OT vulnerability assessments, patch management, whitelisting, endpoint hardening, and audit support.
  • Maintain OT asset inventories, configurations, and change management documentation.
  • Provide engineering leadership for equipment acquisition, qualification, commissioning, and lifecycle support.
  • Support process development and integration of critical equipment into production environments.
  • Coordinate design, build, and commissioning of prototype or pilot equipment for scale‑up manufacturing.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including validation protocols, work instructions, test procedures, and reports.
  • Manage automation and engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery, resource planning, cost control, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, regulatory, EHS, and ISO14001 standards while promoting safe and sustainable work practices.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands‑on PLC experience with Omron and/or Allen Bradley.
  • Experience in managing and troubleshooting industrial networks and fieldbus systems.
  • Experience with automation systems, robotics, machine integration, or system commissioning is highly advantageous.
  • Exposure to OT cybersecurity practices is preferred.
  • Experience in regulated industries (semiconductor, pharmaceutical, oil & gas, chemicals, utilities, or advanced manufacturing) is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with IoT platforms, SCADA systems, and automation networking is desirable.
  • Solid knowledge of PLC programming concepts, ladder logic, function blocks, and industrial communication protocols.
