Automation Engineer

The WCS/WES Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, availability, and performance of the Warehouse Control System (WCS) and Warehouse Execution System (WES). This role provides direct line support to operations, troubleshooting system issues in real time, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain productivity and service levels. The engineer also participates in commissioning of new automation, modifications of existing systems, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational efficiency.

Scope of Role

- Works as part of the operations team under AMD, focusing on both live line support and project participation.

- Supports daily operations while engaging in long-term system improvements and automation projects.

- Interfaces with automation vendors, IT teams, and operations stakeholders.

- Role requires shift flexibility and availability during critical operational windows.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Operations & Line Support

Provide first and second-level support for WCS/WES issues during live operations.

Troubleshoot and resolve incidents related to automated equipment, system interfaces, and process flows.

Monitor dashboards, alerts, and logs to proactively identify issues.

Collaborate with operations staff to minimize downtime and ensure service levels.

2. System Maintenance & Monitoring

Maintain system uptime and availability in line with agreed KPIs.

Conduct preventive system health checks and performance reviews.

Support implementation of patches, upgrades, and configuration changes.

Ensure proper escalation and documentation for unresolved issues.

3. Commissioning & Project Support

Participate in commissioning and acceptance testing of new automation systems.

Support modifications, upgrades, and integration of automation into WCS/WES.

Collaborate with vendors, engineers, and operations to validate system functionality.

Ensure smooth handover from project to operations with complete documentation.

4. Process & Performance Improvement

Propose and implement improvements in workflows, automation use, and system performance.

Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system enhancements.

Provide training and knowledge transfer to operations staff on WCS/WES usage and troubleshooting.

5. Documentation & Compliance

Maintain accurate logs of incidents, resolutions, commissioning activities, and system changes.

Create and update SOPs for WCS/WES system support.

Ensure compliance with IT security standards, operational procedures, and safety policies.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or related discipline.

25 years of experience in WCS/WES support, automation, or industrial systems.

Knowledge of warehouse operations and automated material handling systems.

Experience in commissioning or modifying automation systems preferred.

Familiarity with databases (SQL), scripting, or monitoring tools is an advantage.

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across operations and vendor teams.

Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced 24/7 operational environment.
