Job Description

The position is responsible for the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the AS400 (IBM i) system. This includes running batch jobs, ensuring system availability, performing backups, and supporting business applications to ensure smooth IT operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. System Operations

  • Monitor AS400 system performance and availability
  • Start, stop, and manage system operations as required
  • Ensure all scheduled jobs and processes run successfully
  • To liaise with vendors on applications, OS, hardware and maintenance
  • To troubleshoot AS400 issues
  • To implement and deploy applications
  • Other ad-hoc duties as assigned by the Head of Department

2. Batch Job Management

  • Execute and monitor batch jobs according to schedule
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve job failures
  • Maintain job logs and reports

3. Backup and Recovery

  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly backups
  • Verify backup integrity and completeness
  • Assist in system recovery and disaster recovery procedures

4. User Support

  • Provide support for AS400-related issues
  • Manage user accounts, access, and permissions
  • Respond to system alerts and user requests promptly

5. System Monitoring & Maintenance

  • Monitor disk usage, system messages, and performance metrics
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks and housekeeping
  • Escalate critical issues

6. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain operational logs and incident reports
  • Document procedures and troubleshooting steps

Requirements

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in AS400 operation
  • Strong hands-on experience with Job Control Language, batch processing, scheduling tools
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions under pressure
  • Familiarity with IT service management tools (e.g., JIRA Service Management) is preferred.
