Job Description
- End-to-End AI Delivery: Lead and hands-on contribute to the design, build, deployment, and continuous improvement of AI/ML solutions across multiple business domains.
- Business Problem Translation: Convert complex business challenges into well-defined AI use cases with clear success metrics and measurable outcomes.
- Technical Ownership: Own the full AI/ML lifecycle, from problem framing and data strategy through model development, deployment, and ongoing monitoring.
- Advanced AI Application: Apply a broad range of techniques including machine learning, data science, optimisation, and generative AI where they deliver tangible value.
- Architecture & Quality Focus: Make pragmatic technical and architectural decisions that balance speed, quality, scalability, and long-term sustainability.
- People Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of experienced data scientists, fostering a culture of technical excellence, impact, and continuous learning.
- Stakeholder & Ecosystem Engagement: Partner with senior stakeholders and external technology partners to shape AI roadmaps, prioritise high-value initiatives, and contribute to industry thought leadership
The Successful Applicant
- Degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- At least 8 years of experience in AI, machine learning, or data science, with a strong record of hands-on delivery in production environments.
- Proven experience leading AI initiatives end-to-end, from ideation and experimentation through deployment and operationalisation.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience, including mentoring, coaching, or managing technical teams in complex environments.
- Strong technical depth across machine learning, statistical modelling, and applied data science, with the ability to select and apply appropriate techniques to real-world problems.
- Experience with generative AI and large language models, including model evaluation, prompt design, performance monitoring, and responsible use practices.
- Proficiency in data engineering and analytics tools (e.g. Python, SQL, distributed data platforms, and modern data visualisation tools), alongside sound software engineering practices and version control.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and ML lifecycle tooling, and the ability to review, guide, and contribute to production-quality code and model designs.
- Comfortable operating as a player-coach, balancing hands-on technical contribution with leadership and stakeholder engagement.
- Self-motivated, outcomes-focused, and effective in navigating ambiguity and loosely defined problem spaces.
- Strong communication and storytelling skills, able to translate complex technical insights into clear, compelling messages for diverse audiences.
- Passion for developing talent, with experience mentoring junior team members and fostering a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
