The Job

You will conduct day to day underwriting and related administrative tasks as part of the Small Commercial & Middle Market Division (SMD) in Singapore.

You will be focusing on Property products across all of Chubb's distribution channels.

This is a critical role, as you learn to apply your underwriting knowledge and skills to contribute to the overall growth and profitability of the Property team and P&C department's overall business goals.

The Small Commercial & Middle Market Division

We have the mission to be the best of Chubb across multi-line underwriting strategies, with dedicated whole-account client executives, market-leading account servicing, and bespoke claims, multi-national and risk engineering services, for middle market and domestic accounts.

As An Assistant Underwriter, a Typical Day Would Include

  • Responsible for underwriting of insurance products and progressing the portfolio of the Property business including Fire and Terrorism. Working with members of the team where higher authority levels are required.
  • Maintain profitable renewal accounts as well as assist in the achievement of financial plans and business strategies to ensure profitable growth for the Small Commercial & Middle Market Property business
  • Maintain close rapport and relationship with brokers, maintains liaison with producers to obtain necessary underwriting information, promote satisfactory service relationship and to encourage the submission of targeted business
  • Develop a multiline view of some of our key clients relationships and broaden your knowledge from the Property product to all solutions that Chubb can offer to maximize the value we bring for our clients
  • Secure additional information where necessary and analyses all pertinent data to determine acceptability of risks according to established underwriting standards
  • Review endorsements on existing policies to identify any change in original coverage or amounts. Evaluates, accepts, rejects or modifies risks within established underwriting guidelines. Assist in preparing submissions for higher review
  • Ensure that systems are updated with the correct data (data accuracy), maintain rates adequacy, rates validation and uphold our Underwriting philosophy
  • Coordinate with the support team to ensure valid and timely response on quotations and production of policies, endorsements, certificates, renewal notices, and other administrative requirements
  • Assist in performing peer review and audits
  • Perform ad hoc projects and other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Diploma, Bachelor's Degree, Business Degree, relevant Insurance qualifications or equivalent
  • Demonstrated underwriting ability and technical competence as evidenced by a minimum of 1-2 years underwriting experience or equivalent industry experience
  • Analytical skills and ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks
  • Effective communication & interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, brokers, agents & Chubb personnel
  • To be self-motivating with a drive for self-improvement and progression
