Job Summary
This role involves providing onsite IT support and system setup onboard vessels locally and overseas, supporting project implementations, and delivering after-hours assistance when needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1st-level IT helpdesk support to vessel crew by managing and resolving hardware, software, network, and communication issues through the IT ticketing system
- Troubleshoot vessel IT systems and end-user devices, escalating unresolved or complex incidents for further investigation and resolution
- Assist IT specialists and internal teams in implementing vessel IT projects such as system deployment, hardware refresh, and connectivity upgrades onboard vessels
- Support compliance with cybersecurity standards by performing system patching, antivirus updates, access control management, and monitoring system performance and security alerts onboard
- Perform system monitoring, routine maintenance, updates, and patching activities under supervision
- Coordinate with vessel crew, vendors, and internal IT teams to resolve IT issues efficiently and support project implementations
- Manage inventory of onboard IT and cybersecurity equipment
- Maintain system, asset, and incident documentation as required
- Participate in IT user training, awareness initiatives, and provide ongoing onboard user support
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred
- Strong IT infrastructure and networking certifications such as Microsoft Certified Professional or equivalent preferred
- Relevant IT certifications such as ITSM, Microsoft 365, or basic cybersecurity certifications preferred
- Knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, VPN, backup, and firewall concepts preferred
- Familiarity with vessel IT systems and maritime cybersecurity principles advantageous
- Experience with Microsoft 365 environment and cloud-based services preferred
- Experience in cybersecurity practices and endpoint protection preferred
- Good communication skills to support and collaborate effectively with vessel crews and shore teams
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a dynamic maritime environment
- Ability to use remote support tools to assist vessel IT users
Years of Relevant Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an IT infrastructure role (PCs, networks, servers)
- Exposure to maritime IT environments or vessel IT systems is an advantage but not essential
