Job Description

The Assistant Manager, Public Relations and Communications, is responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating communication strategies to effectively promote the Singapore Association of Social Workers (SASW)s mission, initiatives, and activities. This role involves managing content creation, working closely with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring consistent, impactful messaging across various communication channels to enhance SASW's visibility and engagement with its audience.

Critical Work Functions and Key Activities

Public Relations and Media Management

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure positive coverage for SASW.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other PR materials to support SASW's initiatives and events.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and coordinate timely, professional responses.
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare detailed reports on PR efforts, outcomes, and areas for improvement.

Content Creation and Management

  • Draft, edit, and manage content for newsletters, press releases, social media, SASW's website, and other communication materials.
  • Develop engaging, creative, and impactful content to promote SASW's programs, events, and advocacy initiatives.

Social Media and Digital Communications

  • Plan, manage, and execute social media strategies, including content scheduling, audience engagement, and performance tracking.
  • Enhance SASW's digital presence by creating and curating multimedia content, including videos, infographics, and graphics.
  • Monitor social media trends and recommend innovative approaches to improve reach, engagement, and brand awareness.

Internal and External Communications

  • Support SASW's internal communication efforts, including crafting employee announcements, and updates.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, partners, and vendors to ensure clear, consistent, and effective messaging for campaigns and initiatives.
  • Work with key stakeholders to secure media coverage for SASW's major events, programs, and milestones.

Event and Campaign Support

  • Collaborate with teams to plan and execute communication strategies for events, conferences, and campaigns.
  • Develop promotional materials and manage outreach efforts to ensure successful event participation.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns, providing recommendations for improvement.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track and report on key communication metrics, such as social media performance, website traffic, and campaign results.
  • Analyze data and insights to refine communication strategies and improve the effectiveness of SASW's outreach efforts.
  • Regularly provide updates to leadership on communication outcomes and highlight areas for growth.


Qualifications and Experience

  • A recognized degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field is generally required.
  • Certifications in crisis management, digital media analytics, or accreditation from PR associations (e.g., Institute of Public Relations of Singapore) can be beneficial.
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience in corporate communications, public relations, journalism, or an agency environment.
  • Good writing, editing, and storytelling skills to craft press releases, speeches, and internal communications.
  • Strong network and experience with media pitching and managing media queries.
  • Proficiency in managing content on platforms like LinkedIn, WordPress, and social media analytics tools.
  • Media Monitoring: Tracking media coverage, sentiment, and providing analytical reports.
  • Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work independently, manage projects without close supervision, and sometimes supervise interns or junior staff.
