Assistant Manager, Chartering - Capesize
This role is responsible for supporting the execution of all Capesize chartering activities on a global trade route. The successful candidate will also be crucial in securing and establishing new projects, with a particular focus on decarbonization.
The position handles a fleet composed of conventional and potential new vessels utilizing new and emerging fuels such as LNG, methanol, and biofuels. This requires a professional with a strong commercial background, operational expertise, and project management skills who is flexible and enthusiastic about adapting to new technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiate and execute time charter-out and voyage charter agreements, including Contracts of Affreightment (COAs) on a long-term, medium-term, and spot basis.
- Manage time charter-in activities (spot/term) with shipowners as required.
- Prepare and implement practical arrangements to ensure vessels meet customer and industry vetting standards.
- Conduct regular market research to analyze freight/time charter rate trends, demand and supply dynamics, and the competitive landscape.
- Prepare detailed, fundamental-based reports for management on the Capesize market outlook and forecast.
- Assess and manage charterers creditworthiness to mitigate financial risks.
- Plan and manage vessel voyage schedules to optimize fleet utilization and commercial efficiency.
- Lead key chartering projects to enhance business profitability.
- Execute Freight Forward Agreement (FFA) deals to manage risk and secure profitability in alignment with company strategy.
- Identify and research new business opportunities, particularly those related to decarbonization, and formulate detailed business plans.
- Lead commercial efforts in developing and launching new vessel types focused on decarbonization (e.g., LNG, Ammonia, Methanol, biofuels).
- Support the financial structuring and package development for new business ventures as necessary.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree of any relevant discipline is a plus.
- More than 5 years of experience in the dry bulk/mining shipping industry, with a focus on capsize chartering and mining is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in launching new projects, especially those related to decarbonization, is a significant advantage.
- Proven experience in negotiating voyage and time charter contracts with owners and charterers.
- Proficiency in accounting and finance principles relevant to chartering and new business development.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with dry bulk industry stakeholders, including owners, charterers, and brokers.
