About the Role
We are seeking a highly proactive Logistics Assistant Manager to independently oversee and manage international shipping operations from Singapore to India, South Korea, China, and Europe & Americas. This is a newly created, individual contributor role, ideal for a self-starter who can establish logistics SOPs, source reliable freight forwarders, obtain quotations, and coordinate shipments efficiently.
The company's product portfolio includes:
- Chemicals: Liquid Caustic Soda (NaOH / lye), Hydrobromic Acid (HBr) - used in industrial applications
- Industrial products: Brake blocks, solar panels, finished aluminum materials, small quantities of UD fabric
You will play a key role in setting up logistics processes from scratch, ensuring compliance, cost efficiency, and smooth operations across multiple geographies.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and implement SOPs for all logistics and shipping operations in Singapore.
- Source, evaluate, and manage freight forwarders and shipping vendors obtain quotations and arrange shipments.
- Oversee full-cycle ocean freight operations, including coordination with Indonesia entities and other regional offices.
- Coordinate feeder vessel shipments and transitions to mainline vessels.
- Plan container utilization and consolidation strategies to optimize transportation costs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for freight forwarders, shipping lines, and local agents.
- Ensure accuracy of shipping documentation and compliance with local and international regulations.
- Monitor shipment timelines and proactively resolve operational disruptions.
- Build and maintain relationships with logistics service providers.
- Track shipping costs and prepare periodic operational reports.
- Work independently in a lean setup without a local logistics team, taking full ownership of projects.
Requirements
- Experience: 4-7 years in freight forwarding, ocean freight, or shipping operations, preferably with chemical products.
- Strong knowledge of LCL, FCL, and transshipment processes.
- Demonstrated experience in multi-country coordination.
- Proven ability to work independently, set up processes from scratch, and drive solutions proactively.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with ambiguous boundaries.
- Excellent written and spoken English and Mandarin for liaising with Chinese-speaking colleagues and China HQ.
- Familiarity with hazardous chemical shipping regulations and industrial product logistics is a plus.
- Highly organized with attention to detail, proactiveness, and problem-solving skills.
