The Hotel Assistant Financial Controller will support the Financial Controller in overseeing the financial operations of the hotel. This position plays a key role in ensuring financial compliance, providing accurate financial reporting, and assisting with budgeting and forecasting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hotel finance and accounting, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting:
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Support the Financial Controller in the preparation of financial reports, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow.
- Ensure that all financial reports are accurate, complete, and in compliance with local regulations and hotel policies.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance, comparing actual results to budgeted figures and highlighting variances.
- Provide insights and recommendations to the Financial Controller for cost-saving initiatives and revenue maximization.
Internal Controls:
- Support the implementation and monitoring of internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Assist in ensuring that the hotel adheres to financial policies and procedures, and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Participate in internal audits and ensure timely follow-up on audit findings.
Accounts Payable/Receivable:
- Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Liaise with suppliers and vendors to resolve any discrepancies in invoices or payments.
- Assist with the reconciliation of vendor accounts and internal accounts on a monthly basis.
Payroll and Tax Compliance:
- Assist with payroll processing and ensure compliance with local tax laws and regulations.
- Help prepare and submit monthly tax filings, including VAT/GST, corporate tax, and other statutory requirements.
- Provide necessary reports to support tax audits.
Cash Management:
- Assist in managing the hotel's cash flow and bank accounts.
- Ensure that daily cash balances are monitored and proper procedures are followed for cash handling.
- Support the financial team in preparing weekly and monthly cash forecasts.
Financial Analysis:
- Conduct financial analysis on hotel performance, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and presentations as requested by senior management.
- Assist in analyzing departmental performance to identify opportunities for improvement and cost reduction.
Team Support:
- Provide training and support to junior finance team members.
- Work closely with other hotel departments to provide financial insights and support business decisions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CIMA) is an advantage.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a hotel finance or accounting role, preferably in a supervisory or assistant financial controller position.
- Strong knowledge of hotel financial operations and accounting principles.
- Proficient in financial software and MS Excel (experience with hotel property management systems such as Opera or Micros is a plus).
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of local tax and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
