Job Description

The System Assistant Field Engineer is responsible for the pre-sea, operational, and post-sea technical readiness of Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs), operator consoles, and mission payloads. This role is hands-on and operationally focused, ensuring vessels and systems are fully functional prior to deployment and properly checked after operations. The engineer will work onsite at customer premises and is required to support weekend operations on a rotational basis.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Pre-Sea Checks - Vessel & Systems
- Perform vessel machinery pre-sea checks, including:

  • Powering up vessel electrical systems - Startin and generators
  • Powering and verifying onboard servers and control systems
  • Verify system readiness prior to deployment according to established checklists and procedures

2. Operator Console & Communications Checks
- Perform USV operator console pre-sea checks, including:

  • Powering up operator control consoles
  • Verifying communications links between the operator console and USV
  • Confirming USV system status, alarms, and telemetry are correctly displayed on the MMI (Man-Machine Interface)

3. Payload & Mission Systems
- Ensure all mission payloads (e.g., sensors, cameras, communication devices, mission equipment) are:

  • Powered on
  • Fully functional
  • Properly interfaced with the USV and operator console

4. Post-Sea Checks & Documentation
- Conduct post-sea checks after deployment, including:

  • System shutdown procedures
  • Visual inspections and basic fault identification
  • Recording system status and anomalies

- Ensure all operational checklists are completed and signed off by users
- Report any issues, defects, or abnormalities to the engineering or operations team
- Generation of required periodic reports as directed by management.
- Management of Spares inventory

5. Operational Support
- Work closely with operators, users, and customer representatives during deployments
- Provide onsite technical support during operations as required
- Adhere to safety procedures and operational protocols at all times Work Schedule & Conditions

- Weekend work required on a rotational basis to support operational deployments

Qualifications & Experience
- ITE, Diploma or higher in Marine Engineering, Electrical/Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline
- Experience working with marine systems, unmanned systems, or complex electromechanical equipment
- Comfortable performing procedural checks and following operational checklists
- Basic troubleshooting skills for electrical, mechanical, and IT-related systems
- Good communication skills to coordinate with operators, suppliers and internal stakeholders

- Preferred

  • Experience with USVs, UAS, robotics, or autonomous systems
  • Familiarity with operator consoles, MMIs, or control systems
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends
