Job Description

About the Role:

You will work closely with SHE's management and executive committee to develop, coordinate, and implement communications strategies in the women's development and online safety sectors. As the Communications lead, you will play a key role in shaping and amplifying SHE's voice in addressing online harms and advancing gender equality. This role is both strategic and hands-on: you will refine and execute our brand and communications strategy, oversee campaign development, manage creative and PR partners, and ensure consistent, high-quality messaging across the organisation. You will report to the CEO and collaborate horizontally across all teams.

What You'll Be Doing:

Strategic Communications & Brand Management

  • Refine and implement SHE's overarching brand and communications strategy, ensuring clarity, consistency, and resonance across all channels.

  • Translate organisational priorities into compelling narratives that strengthen public understanding of online harms and support for survivors.

  • Oversee SHE's visual identity, tone of voice, and messaging guidelines.

Content Creation & Editorial Oversight

  • Lead the development and production of in-house written content, including social media posts, thought pieces, speeches, reports, newsletters, and press materials.

  • Manage outsourced creative work (e.g., videos, animations, design assets), ensuring quality and brand alignment.

  • Uphold strong editorial standards across the organisation.

Campaigns & Publicity

  • Lead and execute communications campaigns end-to-end - from insights and brief development to rollout and evaluation.

  • Work closely with the appointed creative and PR agencies to plan and deliver major public education and advocacy campaigns.

  • Identify opportunities to amplify SHE's work, including platform partnerships, thought leadership moments, and advocacy windows.

Media & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support media outreach efforts, working collaboratively with the PR agency while maintaining your own relationships with journalists and editors.

  • Respond to incoming media queries and prepare spokespeople with key messages and briefs.

  • Monitor public sentiment and media trends to inform comms strategy.

Internal Communications & Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work with all departments to surface stories, align messaging, and ensure seamless communication.

  • Strengthen internal communication flows and support senior leadership in preparing key organisational announcements.

Team Leadership & Budget Oversight

  • Supervise at least one full-time staff member and manage interns as needed.

  • Manage communications budgets, including vendor contracts, campaign spends, and creative production costs.

  • Guide team members in developing strong comms instincts, good writing, and strategic thinking.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in strategic communications, media management, brand management, or related fields.

  • Strong writer with the ability to communicate complex issues simply, sensitively, and persuasively.

  • Experienced in managing agencies or vendors, with a good eye for quality creative work.

  • Comfortable speaking with media and supporting senior leaders as spokespeople.

  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment collaborative, adaptable, and resourceful.

  • Experience with social impact, women's issues, digital trust & safety, or government relations is an advantage.
