Job Description

Company Description

Welligence Energy Analytics is a leading provider of upstream oil and gas intelligence, trusted by operators, governments, and investors worldwide. We combine deep industry expertise with advanced analytics to deliver decision-ready insights that shape strategies, improve performance, and enable a lower-carbon future.

Role Description

This full-time role is an opportunity to join a high-performing research team that delivers authoritative intelligence on Asia Pacifics upstream oil & gas sector. Your work will directly support strategic planning, investment decisions, and decarbonization pathways for some of the regions most important industry players.

You will work alongside geoscience, petroleum engineering, petroleum economists, and market analysis specialists, applying your oil & gas knowledge to produce technically sound, commercially relevant, and globally respected insights.

Why this role matters

At Welligence, our clients rely on us for unmatched depth and accuracy in upstream research. We provide a comprehensive view of the energy landscape - from field-level production forecasts to carbon intensity benchmarking - helping decision-makers allocate capital, manage portfolios, and comply with evolving ESG requirements.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment that values technical expertise, rigorous analysis, and clear communication. This role offers regional exposure across APAC and the chance to shape the conversation on the future of oil & gas in the energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Upstream analysis: Evaluate exploration, development, production, reserves, costs, and fiscal terms at the country, company, and asset level across APAC.
  • Forecasting & benchmarking: Develop and maintain production, cost, and emissions forecasts using robust modelling methodologies.
  • Market intelligence: Track licensing rounds, M&A activities, exploration & development, policy changes, corporate activity, and investment trends affecting the upstream sector.
  • Client deliverables: Produce clear, impactful written reports and presentations for industry leaders, government agencies, and investors.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Build and sustain relationships with NOCs, IOCs, independents, regulators, and service companies to ensure insight quality.
  • Data collaboration: Work with the data engineering team to improve data coverage, quality, and analytical workflows.

What you bring

  • Experience: 35 (or more) years in research, consulting, or operational roles - preferably with an upstream oil & gas background; candidates with a strong energy sector background will also be considered. Asia Pacific regional exposure is an advantage.
  • Technical skills:
  • Strong competency in Excel modelling and financial/economic valuations.
  • Familiarity with upstream datasets, reserves classification, and production forecasting.
  • Industry knowledge: Understanding of oil & gas value chain, fiscal regimes, competitive dynamics, and energy transition impacts.
  • Communication skills: Proven ability to translate technical and commercial analysis into concise, actionable insights. Strong intra- and inter-team communication skills, ensuring effective collaboration within the research group and across functions such as data engineering, product, and commercial teams.
  • Mindset: Analytical curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to challenge assumptions with evidence-based reasoning.
  • Languages: English fluency required; additional Asian language skills are advantageous.

Whats in it for you

  • Impact: Influence capital allocation, operational strategies, and energy transition planning for APACs leading oil & gas players.
  • Professional development: Exposure to regional markets, C-suite stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Reputation: Join a company recognised for integrity, depth, and accuracy in upstream analysis.
  • Future-ready skills: Work at the intersection of traditional oil & gas expertise and advanced analytics.
