As the Technical Service Manager for the Asia Pacific region, you are the primary technical authority for Mapei's chemical solutions. You lead a team of specialists to ensure that products-ranging from concrete admixtures and waterproofing to resin flooring-are correctly specified, tested, and applied across massive infrastructure and commercial projects. Your goal is to bridge the gap between laboratory research and high-stakes construction site reality.
Technical Leadership and Strategy
You are responsible for setting the technical standards across Mapei's 11 APAC subsidiaries. This involves developing standardized operating procedures for site support and working closely with R&D teams to adapt European product formulations for the unique, high-humidity tropical climates of Southeast Asia. You will also collaborate with architects and consultants to ensure Mapei systems are written into official project specifications.
Project and Field Operations
You will lead the investigation and resolution of complex site issues, such as concrete cracking, debonding of coatings, or waterproofing failures. This includes performing root-cause analysis and issuing formal technical remediation reports. You also oversee large-scale mock-ups and site trials at batching plants to prove product performance to clients and contractors.
Laboratory and Quality Oversight
You manage the regional laboratory's testing protocols. This ensures that all materials-whether fresh concrete, hardened mortar, or chemical resins-meet rigorous local and international standards like SS EN, ASTM, and ACI. You ensure that quality control remains consistent from the factory to the final application on-site.
Training and Stakeholder Management
A major part of this role involves education. You will lead the Mapei Academy sessions, training external contractors and accredited applicators on Right First Time installation methods. Internally, you mentor a team of Technical Service Engineers and provide the sales department with the technical data they need to win major project tenders.
Professional Experience and Educations
A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science is required. You should have at least 8 to 12 years of experience in the construction chemicals or concrete industry, with at least 5 of those years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
Technical and Soft Skills
You must possess expert knowledge of Singapore Standards (SS) and international building codes. Beyond technical expertise, you need strong communication skills to navigate high-pressure environments where developers, main contractors, and consultants may have conflicting interests.
Travel and Mobility
Since this is a regional role, you must be willing to travel approximately 30% of the time to support project sites and subsidiaries in countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
