Role Summary
The Appian Senior Developer designs and builds core components of Appian applications for Singapore public-sector clients, working closely with the Architect to implement solutions that meet agency security, performance, and usability standards. The role carries responsibility for both hands-on delivery and technical mentorship of junior developers, and requires solid judgement on Appian design patterns, security configuration, and integration approaches used across government projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build Appian process models, interfaces (SAIL), Records, Sites, and Task Reports in line with the solution architecture and agency requirements.
- Implement and maintain Appian security groups, role maps, and object-level security consistent with government data-protection requirements.
- Develop and maintain CDTs and supporting RDBMS schema in coordination with the Architect.
- Build and support external integrations with agency and whole-of-government systems, ensuring adherence to prescribed data-exchange and network-access standards.
- Translate business/functional requirements gathered from government stakeholders into working Appian designs and implementations.
- Participate in code and design reviews to ensure compliance with Appian best practices and engagement-specific standards.
- Analyse and resolve issues identified in Appian and server log files, escalating architectural issues where required.
- Support UAT, security testing (VAPT) remediation, and production cutover activities for government go-lives.
- Contribute to technical documentation required for agency governance, audit, and change-management processes.
- Guide and review the work of Developers on the team, sharing Appian best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- At least 4+ years of hands-on Appian development experience and 7+ years overall in IT.
- Experience with Appian 20.x and above.
- Good understanding of defining and managing Appian security.
- Strong SAIL scripting skills for building responsive, maintainable interfaces.
- Solid experience building and using CDTs.
- Experience with Task Reports, Records, and Sites.
- Hands-on experience with external system integration (Integration Objects, connected systems, APIs/web services).
- Sound knowledge of RDBMS concepts and schema design.
- Good working knowledge of Appian best practices as published by Appian.
- Ability to understand and gather requirements, and design and implement solutions independently.
- Understanding of server-side configuration used by Appian and how it affects application behaviour.
- Ability to analyse and identify errors from Appian and application log files.
Certifications
- Appian Certified Associate Developer.
- Appian Certified Senior Developer.
Singapore Public Sector — Specific Requirements
- Experience on Singapore Government or statutory board projects is preferred, or on regulated-industry projects with comparable security and audit rigor.
- Familiarity with government data-classification handling and the practical implications for interface and integration design.
- Exposure to Government-on-Cloud (GCC) hosted environments, including working within restricted network zones and change-management windows.
- Ability to support VAPT remediation activities and produce evidence/documentation for security sign-off.
- Willingness to work on-site at government premises as required by the engagement.
Soft Skills & Client Engagement
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical designs clearly to business users.
- Comfortable working directly with client business analysts and government project teams during requirements and UAT sessions.
- Collaborative approach to mentoring junior developers and reviewing their work constructively.
