Job Summary

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to provide generalist legal and strategic support to business teams across Asia-Pacific, focusing on Vietnam and Thailand. This role leads the region's privacy compliance programme and contributes to global legal initiatives.

Position Overview

  • Provide legal advice and strategic support to business teams across multiple Asia-Pacific jurisdictions, focusing on Vietnam and Thailand, to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Lead and coordinate the Asia-Pacific privacy compliance programme by maintaining governance structures and managing a network of data privacy champions.
  • Collaborate with global legal teams to contribute to international strategic initiatives that enhance the group's legal support framework.
  • Monitor and interpret legal developments in relevant jurisdictions to inform business decisions and compliance strategies.
  • Manage cross-functional communication to align legal strategies with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Privacy Governance & Compliance Operations

  • Serve as regional privacy legal advisor supporting entities across APAC on privacy laws including PDPA (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand), APPI (Japan), PIPA (Korea), PDPL (Vietnam 2026), Australia Privacy Act, and others.
  • Implement Group Privacy Policy and Group Privacy Directive at regional and local levels, including on vendor due diligence and contract negotiation, data breach management and data subject rights requests.
  • Support Local Compliance Committees in establishing effective privacy governance with appointed DPOs and Privacy Champions.
  • Regulatory monitoring and advisory - Track developments in APAC privacy laws and advise stakeholders on regulatory changes and compliance implications.

2. Contract negotiation and review

  • Oversee all commercial contracting, including Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM), contract template localization, and negotiation of key agreements.
  • Ensure robust governance and corporate secretarial compliance, including accuracy of entity information within digital corporate records tools.

3. Training, Awareness & Capability Building

  • Privacy training - Conduct trainings for employees, managers, DPOs, and Privacy Champions based on Group Privacy Policies and local law requirements.
  • Training on compliance and other legal topics for Vietnam business - Provide tailored guidance to teams concerning legal risks faced by the business.

4. Legal advice on investigations

  • Advising internal investigators during an investigation to ensure that the conduct of investigations are compliant with labour regulations, and risk of litigation is managed
  • Reviewing investigation reports to ensure that conclusions drawn by investigators are meeting the required standards supported by evidence.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Law degree from a recognized institution in APAC.
  • Admission to practice law in an APAC jurisdiction preferred.
  • Languages: Excellent spoken English and at least one other Southeast Asian language

Experience

  • 5-12 years of legal experience, with strong background in privacy/data protection, compliance.
  • Experience working with Vietnamese and Thai business
  • IAPP certified

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of APAC privacy laws (PDPA, APPI, PIPA, PDPL, etc.).
  • Ability to translate complex privacy rules into business-friendly guidance.
  • Excellent stakeholder management across cultural and functional lines.
  • High integrity, discretion, and risk awareness.
  • Strong communication, training, and presentation skills.
