Job Description

Referment is working with one of the world's largest independent energy and commodity groups, which trades physical and financial commodities across global markets with major trading centres including Singapore. This role sits within its finance operations in Singapore and blends hands-on accounts payable work with a genuine remit to automate it.

The Role

You'll support day-to-day accounts payable for the business - processing invoices and preparing payment runs, validating payment requests with local teams, Treasury and Settlements, and resolving payment queries with business units, external parties and banks. Alongside that, you'll be encouraged to find the repetitive, manual parts of AP and accounting and build better ways to handle them. If you can spot a process that should not need doing by hand, you'll have the scope to change it.

The automation side is real scope, not a side project:

  • Identify opportunities to automate invoice matching, reconciliation, data entry and report generation.
  • Build simple, practical solutions using tools such as Excel Macros/VBA, Power Query and Python.
  • Provide backup coverage for other AP team members and support government surveys and other reporting submissions.
  • Contribute to wider accounting, system enhancement and process improvement work as it arises.

What We're Looking For

  • A degree or diploma in accountancy, finance or a related discipline.
  • Experience in accounts payable in a large or high-volume environment, and exposure to process improvement, transformation or automation in finance operations.
  • Basic Python, with a real interest in developing automation skills for accounting and AP workflows.
  • Familiarity with SAP or another ERP system, and strong Excel skills, with Macros, Power Query, Python or SQL a plus.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with financial data and deadlines, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Fluent English is required, and Chinese language proficiency is useful given the regional stakeholder base.

This could suit an AP or finance operations professional who is comfortable in a high-volume environment and wants to build automation skills, or a finance or accounting graduate who is genuinely curious about using technology to improve how finance works.
