We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Animatronics Lead to join our dynamic team. The Animatronics Lead will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of our animatronic projects, from initial concept and design to fabrication, installation, and ongoing maintenance. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, creative problem-solving, and strong leadership to guide a team of talented technicians and artists.
. Lead the design, engineering, and fabrication of complex animatronic figures and systems, ensuring they meet artistic vision and technical specifications.
. Oversee the installation, programming, and testing of animatronics on-site, ensuring seamless integration with other show elements.
. Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to ensure the long-term reliability and safety of all animatronic systems.
. Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and software issues in a timely and efficient manner.
. Supervise, mentor, and guide a team of animatronics technicians, providing clear direction and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
. Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
. Collaborate with other departments, including creative, engineering, and production, to ensure a cohesive and integrated final product.
. Coordinate with external vendors and contractors as needed.
. Establish and enforce rigorous quality control standards throughout the design, fabrication, and installation process.
. Ensure all animatronic systems and procedures comply with industry safety standards and regulations.
. Conduct regular safety audits and training for the animatronics team.
. Experience: Recent graduate in animatronics, robotics, or a related field, with internship or academic project experience contributing to successful team-based projects.
◦ Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and motor control.
◦ Proficiency in electrical systems, including circuit design, wiring, and troubleshooting.
◦ Experience with animatronic control systems and software (e.g., PLCs, microcontrollers, custom control software).
◦ Hands-on fabrication skills, including welding, machining, and molding/casting.
. Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a technical team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
. Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and adapt to changing project requirements.
. Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
. Experience with 3D modeling and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
. Knowledge of programming languages such as C++ or Python.
. Familiarity with show control systems and protocols.
. Experience in the theme park or entertainment industry.
. This position is based in our workshop and may require travel to installation sites.
. The role may involve working in various environments, including at heights and in confined spaces.
. Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required to meet project deadlines.
