About the Role

We're seeking an ambitious AI Engineer Intern to support our AI engineers in designing, building, and deploying real-world AI solutions for clients.

You'll work under the guidance of our engineers and founders, helping with data preparation, experiments, prototypes, and internal tools. This role is ideal for university students who want real exposure to AI engineering in a small, fast-moving team.

What You'll Do

Under the guidance of our AI engineers, you will:
1. Assist in designing and prototyping AI based solutions for client-specific use cases.

2. Contribute to the development pipeline, including data preprocessing, basic feature engineering, model training, and evaluation workflows.

3. Support software deployment and optimisation activities, learning production best practices (scalability, latency, cost, maintainability).

4. Help with data work: cleaning, formatting, structuring, and organising datasets for training and evaluation.

5. Collaborate with software engineers to integrate AI modules into client applications and our core Elsa platform.

6. Work on prompt design, retrieval configs (for RAG), and evaluation of generative AI behaviour for real client workflows.

7. Research and experiment with NLP and generative AI approaches relevant to client needs and BlackFrost's solution portfolio and summarise findings for the team.

8. Support BlackFrost's 5-step playbook (Discover, Design, Build, Launch, Evolve) by contributing mainly to the Build & Launch phases (technical implementation, demos, and documentation).

We'll scope tasks to your level and increase complexity as you grow.

What you'll learn

• End-to-end AI solution development from discovery to deployment
• Working with real client data and business problems across industries
• Building modular AI tools (quotation generators, document summarizers, workflow automation) on top of our Elsa platform.
• Applying privacy and PDPA compliant AI implementation practices in real projects
• Hands-on exposure to LLM/RAG patterns, prompt design, evaluation, and guardrails.
• How to structure experiments, track results, and iterate in a production codebase.
• Client-facing technical consulting experience: sitting in on calls, helping prepare demos, and translating technical work into business language.

What We're Looking For

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, AI, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Solidprogramming fundamentals in at least one language (preferably Python/Typescript).
• Basic understanding of AI concepts and workflows (e.g. train/validation/test split, overfitting, evaluation metrics).
• Some exposure to NLP fundamentals (text preprocessing, embeddings, classification, etc.) is a plus. Coursework or personal projects are fine.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated willingness to learn new tools and concepts.
• Good communication skills, comfortable working with engineers and occasionally supporting client-facing discussions or demos.
• Clear interest in applying AI to real business problems, not just academic or purely research use cases.

Nice to have

• Basic understanding/experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
• Previous internship or project experience in AI

Your scope of duties may be reasonably varied or expanded from time to time by your supervisor in line with the needs of the Company and client requirements.
