We are seeking an AI Engineer who is well-versed in AI/MLespecially in Large Language Models (LLMs), computer vision, signal processing, and predictive analyticsto support the development of intelligent automation tools for environmental monitoring and environmental impact studies. Engineering or environmental domain knowledge (civil, environmental, coastal, water resources, etc.) is a strong advantage. This role is suitable for both fresh graduates and early-career professionals who possess strong technical skills and an engineering mindset.
Responsibilities And Challenges
The main responsibilities and challenges in the job are:
AI/ML Development & Automation
- Develop AI-driven tools to improve and automate environmental monitoring workflows.
- Build, fine-tune, and deploy models using:
- LLMs for document automation, data extraction, report generation, operational SOP automation.
- Computer Vision for ecological or environmental classification tasks.
- Signal/audio processing models for environmental noise and sound identification.
Applied Environmental AI Use Cases
You Will Work On And Prototype Solutions Such As
- Automated bird counting from time-lapse camera images.
- Seagrass and marine habitat identification from drone or sea-surface imagery.
- Detection of plastic bottles or floating debris in collected imagery for pollution monitoring.
- Construction noise source identification from audio recordings.
- Predictive modelling of sewer chokage events based on 35 years of operational and maintenance records.
- Classification of site conditions, ecological features, or environmental indicators from photos, video, sound, or text data.
Engineering & Environmental Applications
- Collaborate with civil, coastal, marine, and environmental engineers to understand workflow needs and convert them into data-driven solutions.
- Provide AI/ML recommendations that support Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), monitoring programmes, marine ecology studies, wastewater operations, and site environmental management.
Data Management & Deployment
- Clean, transform, and prepare environmental datasets (images, audio, telemetry, GIS data, sensor logs, historical operational data).
- Develop end-to-end prototypes and production-ready solutions using Python, ML frameworks, and cloud tools.
- Evaluate model performance and document findings in technical reports.
Innovation & R&D
- Identify new opportunities to apply AI/LLMs/ML to drive innovation in environmental monitoring and consulting services.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in AI for environmental science, engineering automation, and sustainability analytics.
Requirements
We are looking for a new colleague who will join us and have the following qualifications: -
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Engineering disciplines such as Civil, Environmental, Water Resources, or Environmental Science.
- Strong proficiency in Python and common ML libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, OpenCV, etc.).
- Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and prompt engineering.
- Solid foundation in machine learning, statistics, and data analysis.
- Ability to handle diverse environmental datasets (imagery, time series, audio, operational logs).
- Strong engineering mindset: structured thinking, problem-solving, practical application focus.
Preferred (nice To Have)
- Internship or project experience in environmental, civil, or coastal engineering fields.
- Experience in GIS, remote sensing, or image annotation workflows.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and model deployment.
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring practices, marine studies, water infrastructure, or impact assessments.
- Experience with MLOps, containerization (Docker), or API development.
