About the role:
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for supporting GMA and its subsidiaries finance and accounting functions by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and statutory requirements. This role plays a key part in daily accounting operations, month-end closing, and financial reporting to support effective business decision-making.
Main Responsibilities and Duties:
A. Accounting Record Management
- Maintain accurate and up to date accounting records, including ledges, journals and invoices.
- Ensure timely recording of transactions and adherence to accounting principles.
- Monitor accounts payable and receivables to ensure payments are collected and made promptly.
- Reconcile vendor and customer statements to ensure accuracy
- Liaise with vendors and clients regarding accounting matters, including invoices, payments.
- Resolve billing discrepancies and address inquiries in timely and professional manner.
- Fixed Assets Accounting: Manages the company's fixed assets, ensuring they are accurately recorded, depreciated, and tracked
B. Accounting Reporting
- Prepare full set of financial statements for GMA and its subsidiaries including P&L, BS, cashflows and management account.
- Assist in preparing journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities
- Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and reports for management and auditors.
C. Tax Compliance
- Prepare and file tax returns in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Stay updated on changes of tax laws and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
D. Treasury Operations & Controls
- Monitor daily cash balances and ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
- Assis in the preparation of cash flow forecasts and variance analysis.
- Execute and control payment processes, ensuring proper authorization and compliance.
- Support optimization of working capital through effective cash utilization.
- Assist in negotiations for banking services and transaction costs.
- Maintain accurate records of treasury transactions including loans, deposits, FX deals, and intercompany funding
- Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies in a timelymanner.
- Ensure adherence to internal treasury policies, procedures, and approval limits.
- Implement controls to safeguard company assets and reduce operational risks.
E. Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures and controls.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguards assets and prevent fraud.
- Participate in internal audit and risk management to identify areas of non-compliance or weakness.
- Liaise with banks regarding account management, facilities, and transaction issues
- Support business units in terms of treasury-related queries and compliance requirements.
Key Requirements
- Degree in accounting and/or professional accounting qualifications.
- 4-6 years of relevant experience in accounting.
- Strong knowledge of cash management, banking products and treasury operations.
- Good understanding of risk management , internal controls and compliance.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail, integrity and ability to work under pressure.
- Proficiency in accounting software like Oracle, SAP, Xero and MS office especially in Excel.
