Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing the full accounting cycle and supporting financial reporting and internal controls. The role will work closely with Management and operational teams to monitor cash flow, budgets and costs across the company's business activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle a full set of accounts, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general-ledger functions.
  • Perform month-end closing, journal entries, accruals, prepayments and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements, cash-flow reports and supporting schedules.
  • Monitor customer collections, supplier payments and cash-flow requirements.
  • Prepare GST returns, tax schedules and other regulatory submissions with the support of external advisers where required.
  • Coordinate annual statutory audits and prepare the necessary financial records, schedules and supporting documents.
  • Process or review monthly payroll, including crew wages and related payments where applicable.
  • Assist with annual budgeting, financial forecasting and regular performance reviews.
  • Track expenses across crewing, vessel and operational cost centers and highlight significant variances.
  • Maintain appropriate accounting controls, policies and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Liaise with external auditors, banks, tax agents, suppliers, customers and other relevant parties on financial matters.
  • Support Management with financial analysis, cost-control initiatives and business-planning activities.
  • Maintain proper financial records and perform other finance-related assignments as required.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Degree in Accountancy, Finance or a related discipline, or ACCA/CPA qualified or part-qualified.
  • Two to four years of relevant accounting experience, including hands-on responsibility for a full set of accounts.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, GST and basic tax requirements.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience using accounting systems such as SAP, Xero, MYOB or similar software.
  • Experience in the marine, crewing, offshore or shipping sector would be beneficial but is not compulsory.
  • Able to work independently, manage month-end deadlines and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with close attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills when coordinating with internal departments and external parties.
  • Responsible, organized and trustworthy when handling confidential financial information.
  • Candidates with full-set accounting experience in an SME, finance experience within the marine or shipping industry, or an external-audit background are encouraged to apply.
