Workplace Safety and Health Officer (WSHO) /Manager (WSHM)
Job Summary
You will lead the development and implementation of Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) policies and programs to ensure regulatory compliance and promote a proactive safety culture. You will oversee site safety operations, conduct risk assessments, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to safeguard employees and assets.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement WSH policies, procedures, and programs aligned with local regulations such as the WSH Act and ISO 45001 to ensure organizational compliance
- Oversee site safety operations by monitoring activities against risk assessments and safety plans to maintain a safe working environment
- Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective and preventive measures that reduce workplace risks
- Lead incident investigations by performing root cause analysis, ensuring timely reporting, and driving corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Train and guide staff on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and regulatory compliance to enhance workforce safety awareness and preparedness
- Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities to align safety goals and foster a strong safety culture across all stakeholders
- Prepare and submit comprehensive safety reports to management and relevant authorities to maintain transparency and compliance
- Monitor compliance with statutory requirements and company safety policies to uphold legal and organizational standards
- Chair safety committee meetings and represent the company during regulatory inspections and audits to demonstrate commitment to safety excellence
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance health, safety, and environmental performance across the organization
Required competencies and certifications
- Possess a WSH Specialist Diploma, equivalent qualification, or relevant degree as evidence of professional knowledge
- Registered WSH Officer with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to fulfill statutory responsibilities
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience in the WSH field demonstrating practical application of safety management principles
- Demonstrate self-driven leadership and teamwork skills with the ability to mentor and guide junior staff effectively
- Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate collaboration across departments and organizational levels
- Ability to start work at short notice is advantageous
