The World Language Curriculum Coordinator oversees the strategic implementation of the SAS world language program from Preschool to Grade 12, ensuring all academic programming aligns with the school's mission, equity goals, and the SAS2027 plan. Acting as a vital liaison between the Office of Learning and division leadership, this role supervises faculty and support staff K-12 while providing expert pedagogical guidance to teachers, PLCs, and PLC coaches. Ultimately, the Coordinator is responsible for fostering high-quality instructional practices and professional development to enhance the overall student experience and wellbeing.
Position Responsibilities
Leading the Learning:
In conjunction with the Director of World Language, implement short and long-term goals, aligned with the school's strategic plan, to continue to build a culture of continuous improvement in all aspects of the world language department.
Lead learning-focused and collaborative world language teams in support of the SAS strategic plan, building effective teams through recruitment, orientation, coaching, mentoring, and providing professional learning.
Support coherent and consistent learning experiences for students by ensuring commonalities in the areas of content, skills, dispositions and expectations throughout and across grade levels.
Support coherent and consistent learning experiences for students by ensuring the use of authentic, meaningful assessment tools rooted in the student experience, and horizontally and vertically aligned across the world language department.
Supervise and evaluate world language faculty and support staff K-12
Improve student learning within the world language department by supporting the ongoing collection, analysis, and use of data about student learning (both qualitative and quantitative) to identify next steps in learning, placement, intervention strategies, curriculum adaptations, etc.
Provide leadership in the organization, delivery, and evaluation of Professional Learning Community (PLC) teams across the department. Oversee the continued development of PLCs to foster a common PLC culture across the system.
Supervise goal-setting processes for department PLCs to assist with establishing professional learning opportunities to support the work of faculty members and divisions.
Provide teachers with regular feedback and on their classroom instruction to foster professional growth in support of the SAS strategic plan.
Partner with Human Resources to provide support to teachers who are experiencing professional difficulties, struggling, or in need of additional support.
Provide direction in and maintain up-to-date knowledge of educational reform and its application in the world language department context, and participate in on-going training to enhance professional skills and improve the school's work towards its vision.
Revise program planning guide and pathways
Host Parent coffees
Support language based interim semesters, extracurriculars, seal of biliteracy, STAMP testing...etc.
Lead curriculum review processes from research through implementation
Facilitate curriculum and interdisciplinary development and student assessment-related systems
Support the development of PLC coaches to act in their capacity as instructional leaders
Meet with teacher leaders and/or PLCs to provide support as they plan units, examine assessments and student data, and provide feedback on instruction and curriculum design
Use assessment and feedback data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices, and monitor program effectiveness
Conduct classroom walkthroughs to provide observational data on implementation of curricular programs
Implement effective internal assessment and feedback systems to monitor implementation of curricular programs
Develop and lead instructional professional development sessions
Engage families as partners in their children's education
Facilitate and develop positive and effective communication and relationships with the various constituents of the community including parents, faculty, division leadership, and central administration

Position Requirements & Qualifications
Advanced Degree in Education or a relevant field preferred
At least 5 years of successful teacher leadership and/or school instructional coaching experience preferred
Experience and knowledge of early learning, elementary, middle or high school curriculum and instructional practices
Proven record of having successfully led in a faculty leadership capacity preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills, facilitation skills, and communication skills
Knowledge of and experience with the ACTFL standards and proficiency guidelines
Strong background in language and literature preferred
Knowledge and understanding of research-proven pedagogical practices, including professional learning communities (PLCs), response to intervention, personalized learning, and standards-based assessment/grading/reporting
Knowledge and experience in research-proven instructional strategies
Knowledge and understanding of current pedagogical practices, including PLCs, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, Social Emotional Learning, Multi-tiered Systems of Support, Understanding By Design, and standards-based grading.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects and tasks efficiently, with a history of innovative problem-solving and adaptability in diverse educational settings.
Effective management of interpersonal relations, leading groups, and delivering clear, impactful communications across various educational contexts.
Experience implementing and supporting culturally responsive pedagogy and leadership anchored in high academic standards, building students cultural understanding, and addressing social issues.
Technology expertise, with a strong understanding of the role of technology in 21st century learning environments
Experience leading major school initiatives from conception to completion
Ability to motivate and collaborate with other teachers and leadership team members
Results-oriented, with demonstrated skill in using data to inform and improve student learning and school programs
Self-motivated, energetic, and creative
Ability to give, receive, and grow and learn through feedback is essential
English (Native or Near Native)
Advanced or Native language skills in Chinese, Spanish, and/or French.
Working requirements
Sponsoring and/or coaching after school activities or sports are part of the responsibility of the professional educator. Therefore, faculty shall be available to coach and/or sponsor an athletic team or other extra curricular activity. Each faculty member is expected to do a minimum of one category 1 activity or sport per year.
Chaperone and participate in a minimum of four evening and/or weekend school activities each year, as assigned (including Back-to-School Night, conferences, and more).
SAS faculty members are expected to commit to chaperoning learning experiences including those requiring overseas and/or overnight excursions, including but not limited to High School Interim Semester and curricular trips.
