Main Role:
The Workplace Safety and Health Officer(WSHO) is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining workplace safety and health (WSH) policies and systems to ensure compliance with the Workplace Safety and Health Act and other relevant regulations. The role aims to prevent workplace incidents, protect employees well-being, and promote a strong safety culture within the organization.
Main Responsibilities:
1.Compliance & Regulatory Requirements
. Ensure compliance with all applicable WSH legislation, codes of practice, and standards set by the Ministry of Manpower and Workplace Safety and Health Council
. Liaise with regulatory authorities and external auditors on safety matters
. Prepare and submit statutory reports and documentation
2.Risk Management
. Conduct risk assessments (RA) for all work activities and review periodically
. Identify hazards and recommend appropriate control measures (engineering, administrative, PPE)
. Implement and monitor risk control measures to ensure effectiveness
3.Incident Management
. Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses
. Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions
. Maintain records of incidents and submit reports as required
4.Safety Inspections & Audits
. Conduct routine workplace inspections and safety audits
. Monitor compliance with safe work procedures (SWP)
. Recommend improvements to enhance workplace safety
5.Training & Awareness
. Develop and conduct WSH training programs and toolbox meetings
. Promote safety awareness campaigns and initiatives
. Ensure all employees and contractors are adequately trained and competent
6.Safety Management Systems
. Develop, implement, and maintain the company's WSH Management System (For the site.SS679 must be maintained)
. Support bizSAFE certification and other safety-related accreditations (If the companyis bizSAFE company)
. Monitor safety performance indicators and prepare reports for management
7.Emergency Preparedness
. Develop and implement emergency response plans (ERP)
. Conduct drills (fire, chemical spill, evacuation, etc.)
. Ensure availability and maintenance of emergency equipment
8.Contractor & Workplace Coordination
. Ensure contractors comply with WSH requirements and site rules
. Conduct safety briefings and permit-to-work (PTW) coordination
. Monitor high-risk activities (e.g., work at height, lifting operations, confined space)
Qualifications & Requirements
. Registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer with the Ministry of Manpower
. Degree/Diploma in Occupational Safety &Health or related field
. Minimum 2-5 years of relevant WSH experience(industry dependent)
. Knowledge of WSH legislation, risk assessment, and safety management systems
. Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
