Job Summary
The Wintel Engineer provides SME support by planning, installing, and administering Workplace Management systems. This role focuses on managing workplace environments, OS deployment, operational process improvements, and adherence to best practices.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, test, and maintain endpoint hardware and images, including operating systems, software, drivers, upgrades, updates, and hotfixes
- Plan, implement, and support patch management and software distribution services for desktop and server devices
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available AWS or Azure infrastructure and services
- Deploy, configure, and manage AWS or Azure services such as EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, Azure App Services, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Functions
- Collaborate with development teams to architect and deploy cloud-native applications
- Implement and maintain automation and infrastructure-as-code using tools like CloudFormation or Terraform
- Troubleshoot and resolve AWS or Azure infrastructure, application, and connectivity issues
- Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies for cloud resources
- Administer back-end infrastructure services with a focus on PC imaging
- Support desktop and server escalations related to Workplace Management tools such as HC BigFix, MS SCCM, Citrix VDI, and Nexthink
- Perform quality assurance testing for endpoint device changes
- Streamline daily operational processes through automation and procedural improvements
- Maintain accurate documentation and reports for all activities
- Perform other ad-hoc duties as assigned
Required competencies and certifications
- Experience managing Windows Servers, Active Directory, PowerShell, and Group Policy Objects in a Workplace Management environment
- Proficient in PC imaging deployment, patch management, and software distribution for desktop and server devices
- Strong analytical and design skills with experience in documentation
- Knowledge of Workplace Management tools such as HC BigFix, MS SCCM, Citrix VDI, and Nexthink
- Familiarity with MSI technology, application packaging, deployment processes, and Windows Installer Technology scripting and troubleshooting
- In-depth knowledge of AWS and Azure services, architecture, networking concepts, and security best practices
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like CloudFormation or Terraform
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Shell
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems like Git
- Effective communication skills and ability to work independently
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- AWS and Azure certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer, Azure Administrator, or Azure Solutions Architect
- Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Engineering/Information System
- At least 5 years of experience in Windows Servers, Active Directory, Power Shell, Group Policy Objects and Workplace Management Tools (for e.g. HC BigFix, MS SCCM, Citrix VDI, Nexthink
