Job Description

Job Purpose

To perform high-precision welding (ARC/MIG/TIG) on marine and offshore structures, ensuring all welds meet required quality, safety, and classification standards for durability and corrosion resistance in marine environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute welding on stainless steel, aluminium, carbon steel, and alloy materials for marine applications
  • Perform fabrication, installation, and repair of ship structures, piping systems, tanks, and offshore components
  • Interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
  • Prepare materials prior to welding (cutting, grinding, cleaning, fit-up)
  • Set up and maintain welding equipment, including shielding gas (argon) and welding parameters
  • Ensure all welds comply with applicable marine standards and specifications set by classification bodies such as American Bureau of Shipping, DNV, and Lloyd's Register
  • Conduct visual inspection of welds and rectify defects where required
  • Support Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities and quality inspections
  • Adhere strictly to workplace safety procedures, including working in confined spaces and at heights
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and care of tools and equipment

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum secondary education or equivalent
  • Valid ARC/MIG/TIG welding certification (6G preferred)
  • Proven experience in marine, shipyard, or offshore welding works
  • Familiarity with marine-grade materials (e.g., duplex stainless steel, aluminium alloys)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and WPS
  • Knowledge of welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ISO)
  • Physically fit and able to work in demanding environments

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to heat, noise, and confined spaces

  • May require overtime, shift work, or project-based deployment
