Job Purpose
To perform high-precision welding (ARC/MIG/TIG) on marine and offshore structures, ensuring all welds meet required quality, safety, and classification standards for durability and corrosion resistance in marine environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute welding on stainless steel, aluminium, carbon steel, and alloy materials for marine applications
- Perform fabrication, installation, and repair of ship structures, piping systems, tanks, and offshore components
- Interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
- Prepare materials prior to welding (cutting, grinding, cleaning, fit-up)
- Set up and maintain welding equipment, including shielding gas (argon) and welding parameters
- Ensure all welds comply with applicable marine standards and specifications set by classification bodies such as American Bureau of Shipping, DNV, and Lloyd's Register
- Conduct visual inspection of welds and rectify defects where required
- Support Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities and quality inspections
- Adhere strictly to workplace safety procedures, including working in confined spaces and at heights
- Maintain proper housekeeping and care of tools and equipment
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum secondary education or equivalent
- Valid ARC/MIG/TIG welding certification (6G preferred)
- Proven experience in marine, shipyard, or offshore welding works
- Familiarity with marine-grade materials (e.g., duplex stainless steel, aluminium alloys)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and WPS
- Knowledge of welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ISO)
- Physically fit and able to work in demanding environments
