About the Role

Do you have a passion for creating compelling video stories

The Straits Times video team is looking for someone with the ability to shoot and edit creative video content which engages our audiences across platforms. From long-form documentaries to short-form videos, you will strategically craft for news, current affairs, feature content and human-interest stories.

This is also the opportunity to flourish in a collaborative environment, working with the wider newsroom in producing and advising on a range of video content. Must-haves include a knowledge of editing, trends, and a good command of English. Curiosity, resourcefulness and a willingness to learn are as critical as a desire to stay up to date on the latest news, audience and content trends. Leadership and mentoring skills are an advantage.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Be able to cover a variety of video opportunities, including: doorstop interviews, event speeches, live-streaming, undercover stakeouts, police /emergency scenarios, in-studio interviews, and long-form feature shoots.
  • Be able to shoot and edit videos for our various platforms with an eye for accuracy.
  • Plan, set up and execute video production according to a visual concept.
  • Craft creative visual content for target audiences and experiment with concepts and formats.
  • Collaborate with journalists in the wider newsroom and cross-functional teams to develop visual projects.
  • Stay on top of the latest news, audience and content trends.

Job Requirements

  • Be savvy with social media platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
  • Relevant diploma or degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Video Production, Journalism, English or any relevant field.
  • Two years of relevant experience are an advantage.
  • An interest in using analytics to optimise video projects is an advantage
  • A growth mindset, with a willingness to learn and be nimble.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative suite of apps, particularly Premiere Pro.
  • Well-organised and a self-starter.
  • Highly collaborative.
  • Able to plan, set up and manage shoots.
  • Exercise news judgment, manage pressure and be adaptable to changing scenarios.
  • Able to shoot using both professional and mobile phone cameras.
  • Produce quality work in a fast-paced environment on tight deadlines.
  • Able to work as a sole operator.
