Job Description

A newspaper for the local Malay community, Berita Harian was established on July 1, 1957. It presents news and issues from home, the region and the world, featuring a wide spectrum of topics from sports to politics and religion. Other highlights include Malay culture and tradition, arts and heritage, family, hobbies and leisure. Berita Harian (BH) also provides a platform for the Malay community to voice their views on issues that concern them. It is a paper that speaks with authority and understands the needs of the Malay community.

About the Role

As a Video Journalist for Berita Harian, your primary role will be to execute the technical requirements for producing engaging video content for its respective audiences. Your primary role is to film and edit creative visual content produced by journalists and social media producers. You will strategically craft video content from news packages and short-form vertical videos for news, current affairs, and sociocultural stories. Your secondary role is to produce your own content or co-produce content with journalists and social media producers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, set up and execute media production work including videography, video editing and media production for social media, as well as conduct video shoots, and live-stream events.
  • Execute video production according to script and visual concept - duties include transcribing, scripting, filming, editing, producing and uploading content.
  • Craft creative video content for target audiences, and experiment with concepts and formats.
  • Stay on top of the latest news, audience and content trends.
  • Use data analytics to optimise video projects
  • As a secondary role, create your own video content and/or collaborate with journalists in the wider newsroom and cross-functional teams to develop video projects.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum diploma in Film and Video and Mass Communications or equivalent from a recognised institution
  • Highly creative and meticulous, with high personal standards, takes ownership in his/her projects.
  • Have a track record in videography and editing, especially in social media.
  • Able to film with different devices, including mobile phones and cameras.
  • Proficient in editing software under Adobe Creative Cloud (i.e. Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop) and other software like Canva and CapCut.
  • Positive attitude, detail and audience-oriented with good multitasking and organisational ability
  • Able to prioritize, multitask and work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in video production
  • Effectively bilingual in English and Malay for a Malay-language newspaper
  • Willingness to work on weekends/public holidays when required

This is a full-time contract position till March 2027, with option to extend till 2028.
