POSITION SUMMARY

Exela Bioscience is seeking an exceptional, highly strategic, and commercially savvy leader to fill the critical role of Vice President (VP), Business Development.

As the VP, Business Development, you will lead the identification, evaluation, and execution of high-impact strategic transactions that transform our portfolio and extend our market leadership. This role encompasses the entire spectrum of corporate business development, including In-Licensing, Out-Licensing, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), Strategic Partnerships, and Joint Ventures.

This role demands a unique combination of profound scientific understanding (specifically in Oncology, Hematology, and Orphan Drugs), sophisticated financial acumen, expert negotiation skills, and an unparalleled network of global industry contacts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Corporate Strategy & Portfolio Management

  • Define and implement Exela's global Business Development strategy, ensuring it is flawlessly aligned with long-term corporate goals and therapeutic focus areas.

  • Proactively identify new growth levers for the company, assessing the strategic rationale for M&A, technology acquisitions, or market expansions.

2. Transaction Execution & Negotiation

  • Define and structure critical commercial, financial, and operational terms (including complex payout structures like contingent payments, royalties, and profit sharing) that optimize return and mitigate risk.

  • Partner seamlessly with internal and external Legal Counsel to manage the complete contract drafting and negotiation cycle, ensuring adherence to regulatory and internal governance requirements.

3. Financial Modeling, Valuation, & Analysis

  • Direct the creation of sophisticated financial models (rNPV, DCF, acc/dil) to underpin every potential investment case, ensuring thorough stress-testing of commercial assumptions.

  • Synthesize complex findings into concise business cases that clearly articulate the strategic rationale, financial implications, and implementation risks of a transaction.

4. Leadership & Team Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a best-in-class Business Development team, instilling a culture of strategic excellence, data-driven analysis, and accountability.

  • Manage the BD budget, including oversight of external advisors and consultants.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:

  • An advanced degree in the life sciences, biomedical engineering, pharmacy or medicine (Master's, Ph.D. or M.D.) is strongly preferred.

  • A Master of Business Administration (MBA) from a top-tier business school is highly desirable.

  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, with at least 10 years in senior Business Development or Corporate Development roles.

  • Specific, recent experience in transactions within Oncology, Hematology, or Orphan Drugs.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with Joint Ventures or complex alliance management at an executive level.

  • Direct experience in executing transactions involving markets in South East Asia, CIS, or MENA.

  • Previous experience in pharmaceutical investment banking or strategy consulting.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • The opportunity to lead the growth strategy for a globally impactful specialty pharmaceutical company.

  • A dynamic, entrepreneurial culture with significant autonomy.

  • Competitive compensation (including performance-based bonus and potential equity) and comprehensive benefits.
