The Group Consumer Banking Wealth Manager Operations (CBWMO) oversees processing and service fulfilment for CBG Wealth clients. The Risk and Control team collaborates with various upstream and downstream stakeholders to manage the Operational Risk activities, addressing both inherent and emerging risks within the consumer banking wealth management operations domain.
This role of Operational Risk Generalist in our Group Wealth Management and Brokerage Operations serves as a pivotal individual contributor in the 1st Lineof Defence role, actively implementing and executing the comprehensive operational risk management and control framework. The remit spans six core Wealth Management Operations markets and four Brokerage Operations units, wherethe role is expected to drive initiatives for identifying, assessing,and mitigating risks in strict alignment with the Group's established risk appetite. The role also drives positive Risk Culture and behaviours.
Responsibilities:
Accountable for driving the CBWMO Operational Risk agenda through robust governance, effective challenge, and disciplined issue management, ensuring adherence to the organisation's risk appetite and regulatory requirements, with a direct impact on scorecard outcomes, while promoting a positive risk culture. This encompasses:
Risk Management:
Proactively engages stakeholders, directly contributing to risk identification,assessment, and mitigation activities across Wealth Management Operations and Brokerage Operations to enhance operational resilience and risk management.
Directly drive and manage policy and standard implementation with locations and senior stakeholders, interpreting requirements to specific operational contexts to ensure immediate adoption and compliance. Systematically understand and integrate new products or processes, emerging issues, and exceptions. Comprehensively perform risk identification, assessment, and mitigationactivities for new and emerging risks. Meticulously tracking these exposures to closure to align with the organization's overarching risk appetite. In all, drive an appropriate and positive Risk Culture - systemically and in personal interactions and behaviour.
o Maintain a consistent controls governance cadence across units by reviewing unit-reported assessments, issues, breaks and exceptions, and analysing datasets for anomalies and trend shifts using risk tools, challenge control design and operating effectiveness, and drive remediation to closure.
o Socialiseand escalate critical issues through appropriate governance forums to prevent recurrence and assess whether controls are logically designed to mitigate the target risk.
o Championand drive CBWMO's contributions to strategic operational risk initiatives whether Bankwide or within Operations. Drive RCSA (Risk & ControlSelf-Assessments) analysis, actions and outcomes.
o Set clear focus and objectives through regular standing agendas to drive progress,resolve issues, and ensure adherence to project scope, ultimately achieving optimal scorecard rating outcomes for each initiative.
o Manage and track progress against scorecard deliverables for various operational risk initiatives, proactively raising alerts for potential misses
Requirements:
o Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Banking & Finance, Economics, or a related field. Relevant professional certifications in Wealth Management or Risk Management in Banks and FIs would be a plus.
o Knowledge of Wealth Management Operations (WMO) and Brokerage Operations - both products and operational aspects would be a plus.
o Minimumof 8-10 years of extensive experience in Operational Risk Management in Banks and FIs with a proven track record.
o Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify emerging risk, and formulate strategic recommendations.
o Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including senior executives. Excellent interpersonal skills to challenge the status quo, engaging stakeholders at all levels to adopt more rigorous controls without stifling efficiency
o Technical Proficiency: Expertise in leading risk identification, assessment, and mitigation. Demonstrated experience in fostering a strong risk culture through advisory work, training support and promoting best practices
o Problem-Solving & Organization: Proactive and results-oriented problem-solver with strong planning, organizational, and time management skills. Possesses a meticulous eye for detail while effectively managing multiple priorities and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
